Petroleum Jelly?!

Question: So... I feel stupid asking this, but Petroleum Jelly falls under the catagory of "oil based lubrication," right? I was just reading about oil based lube causing infection, condoms breaking, etc. I hadn't really ever heard any of that before. So I'm assuming Petroleum obviously has something to do with Petrol obviously has something to with oil. Just looking for some confirmation, and a few additional detail. Any info would be welcomed. Thanks

yes petroleum is a oil base IE Vaseline. It does cause condoms to disintegrate.
compare to solution (most are water) gel creams then ointment which is petrolatum.
That why Vaseline or ointments become a gooey mess when applied to wet skin.

Note that why KY gel is used as vaginal lubricant during sexual activity

Yes, it's oil based. You shouldn't use it or any other oil based lubricants with condoms because they can break down the latex.

Here's some extra info for you. They list some common oil based lubricants further down the page: http://www.brown.edu/Student_Services/He...

Yeah dog, Vaseline is oil, don't use a condom with it. It's not necessarily that it would cause an infection, but it certainly wouldn't do anything to hinder it, and latex haaaates it. Just go buy a water-based lube; they're not greasy/oily, they're cheap as hell (I use the Safeway brand and it works!), and they're good with condoms.

yes and the petroleum oil base has been shown to deteriorate the integrity of a condom, in other words if you are going to lube a condom, use a non oil based lube

Yeah no petroleum or baby oil etc. It has to be natural (you) or water based. like k-y, astro glide or tons of others.

In any sexual act needing lubrication, one needs to use a water based lubrication, like ky jelly. Not only can it do the things you mentioned, but it's not good for the woman as it's hard to wash off or reach, but it can open her to infections.
peace
