Period in the middle of my birth control pill cycle???!

Question: I'm in my mid-20s and have been on the birth control pill for several years without any problems. This month, I'm in the middle of my pill packet, taking the active pills, but I've started my period! I still should have a week left before starting the sugar pills and the normal time when I would have my period. What's going on?!

Last month I accidentally took two pills in the same day, but I continued as usual with the pills and never missed one. I had my period as usual at the end of that packet of pills and then started this one. I have not missed a pill or done anything out of the ordinary. I've felt really hormonal for about two weeks, too. Has this happened to you? I'm going to contact the doctor on Monday... but what do you think this is about?

It's not a big big deal. It's happened to me and I was ssoo confused as to what was happening...especially not having a problem with breakthrough bleeding in any of the previous months. Anyways, this is a very very common side effect and can happen no matter how long you are on your pill for (most people believe that it ONLY happens during the first 3 or so months while your body becomes accustomed).

Just keep taking them as usual and by the time you come to your inactive pills, you will most likely just have light spotting/bleeding. If you have prolonged bleeding, then I would talk to your doctor about it because there may be some other problem. It could also be your birth control pill mixing with your other meds (are you on antiobiotics? the way that you have described that it can give birth defects and you should be using another method of contraception with the pill sounds like it could be antibiotics), or it could just simply be your birth control being retarded.

If you have been feeling really hormonal lately too, it most likely will be your pills. Once again, side effects may not occur during the first 3 months as they "normally" would but rather afterwards (or, even a couple years down the road). However, just like the bleeding, it could be enhanced by your other medications.

It's a good thing you are planning on contacting your doctor. He/she will have a better understanding of what may be going on and how your body is reacting with two interacting medications.

I've had the same problem. My doctor said it might be your body getting "used to" the pills, or just a hormonal change. I would deff talk to your DR and see if you it's time for a change (mine also happened after several years of the same pills.) but then again, she said you could stay on them and see what happens next month.

Also, if you've gained a bit of weight (which i have nooo idea if you have or not obviously) then you might need to be put on a stronger pill with more estrogen.

It's not biggie though, keep taking your pills!
