A few things...
1) Yes they CAN make your period lighter but they don't work for everyone and they have lots of other sucky symptoms that go with it. You will have mood swings, you may gain weight, and you will break out.
2) At your age your period isn't regular yet. Mine took years before it worked itself out. Wait a few more years and I bet you'll be fine.
3) Some doctors say it is bad to be on birth control for long periods of time. So if you start young you might not be able to be on it years from now when you actually need it for sexual reasons.

Yes, birth control pills usually make your period lighter. You have to take the pills at the same time everyday, but it doesn't have to be at noon. You can take them before school or whe you get home. I take mine everyday at 7:30 am.

if your docter recommends it i think you should
and if you have to take it at school just dont bring the entire pack with you, take the pill put it in your pocket or somewere safe and take it at noon if someone asks you what it is say its a vitamin

good luck!

Wow. I'm thirteen, and i had my period since April fools day 07.

Point is, I've heard that one of the types of birth controls helps control the flow as well.

I believe that you are abstinence, m'kay? You should take it, because

a - You are not going to tell anyone at school

b - You are not going to make it obvious you are using it by just taking it in front of them

c - Your doctor said so, not a retard

d - It's for your own good

You're just anxious, and don't let that get the better of you! D: Plus there are better things to worry about, though this is one of the betters. Anyways, good luck.

Plus ask your doctor or mother or school nurse if you can postphone (sp?) the time you take this birth control pill or something at a different desinated time.

i would say not to birth control.

reason : we all have our own sets of aches and pains, to cure them all we would have to be drugged all time.

i think for you use a super plus tampon, or something. that ought to help you manage.

if its that bad, visit your ob/gyn they will suggest something good. although i would recommend not to get onto any hormones which are basicially in any birth control,

let your body rule your body, not drugs.

im not a scientologist or anything. i am just saying that there are somethings that needs to be treated and somethings left alone

To tell you the truth I honestly know how you feel I was 13 when I got my first cycle and I had a HEAVY HEAVY cycle and I was like you I wanted to take birth control too, hoping that it would slack up the flow of my cycle. Then I talked to my mom and she told me that because I was just starting out my cycle would kinda heavy, then she told me to give it a couple months and see if the flow changes, and if nothing works I could get on the birth control. Well I waited for about 3 or 4 months and sure enough my cycle started to lighten up, what I'm saying to you is give it a couple more months and see if your flow changes. if you don' see a change and still want to get birth control then by all means go ahead, but see if you can get the shot instead of taking the pill. The shot last 3 months and nobody has to know your taking it because your doctor will do it in her office.

Have you asked your doc why it needs to be taken at noon and why not in the am b4 school? He may be trying to discourage you from taking this route.
If you decide to take the pill remember that you may have some side effects at first while your body is getting used to it.
