Question: What I really wanna know is - does birth control just give you a bigger appetite and only if you satisfy it will you gain weight, or does it actually make you gain weight even if you eat like you normally do?

It really depends on the type of birth control.
I was on the pill for 7-8 years straight, and it never made me gain weight. I've heard and seen many women who get on the shot, and they tend to blow up like balloons (not all of them, but many do).
I don't think it's an appetite thing. It's all about the hormones and how they react with your body. The pill makes you retain water around your period, but that's just simple bloating and goes away when your period comes.

I started on the combined pill and only put on a small amount of weight, then moved onto the depo shot which made me put on about a stone and a half!!!!All my eating habits were the same but i went from a uk 8 to a size 12!!!The weight you gain is really hard to shift too, as it is mainly the fatty deposits caused by the hormones which build up. I went on the shot about 4 years ago now, and only after changing my contraceptive recently to the evra patch did I lose the weight. I think it just depends on a)the person b)the reaction to the hormones.
it depends on what pill and the hormone balance. some women may gain weight, and others lose or stay the same. but when your on the shot you WILL gain alot of weight and youll be miserable overall
