Cramps and mood swings on Yaz?!

Question: I was prescribed Yasmin in November 2006. More recently at my checkup last month my gyn asked me how the Yasmin worked for me, and I told him it was fine, it made me sick to my stomach the first month, but after that it didn't bother me. So he gave me a prescription for Yaz, which I think it's the same thing but a lower dosage.

The first two weeks were fine. The 3rd week was hell, literally. For me AND for my ex husband (who I live with). I've had terrible mood swings, depression, and awful cramps. The cramps are literally so bad I can't stand, or move sometimes. It's really affecting my work. The cramps will wake me up in the middle of the night. I cry about everything now. I'm always upset. I don't eat like I'm supposed to.

Could this be the Yaz? Should I wait it out a few months to see if it's just from being a new pill? Why would Yasmin not do the same thing to me? My ex now thinks I am completely crazy and I need to see a psychologist. It's scary.

This is a list of side affects. Seems the last one applies to your mood swings I would contact your DR. The link below also has more great info on Yaz.

a change in the pattern or severity of migraine headaches;

stomach pain, loss of appetite, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);

a breast lump; or

symptoms of depression (sleep problems, weakness, mood changes).

It could very well be the Yaz. I'm on Yaz, strictly for PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder), and it's literally been my lifesaver. Without it I was suicidal every month.

Normally I would say to give the Yaz at least 3 months, but if you're suffering that badly, I won't suggest that. Call your gyn, let him know what you're experiencing. You shouldn't be suffering like that. If the Yasmin was working for you, then go back to that one.
