pulling out is exactly what it sounds. while a couple's having sex, the guy would "pull out" before he ejaculates so that his semen won't go inside the vagina.
this isn't very effective if the girl doesn't want to get pregnant because the guy still ejaculates small amounts of semen even though he hasn't had an orgasm.

It is a form of birth control. The male disengages or pulls out of the vagina just before ejaculation. Not good for those that have no control.
Check out coitus interruptus on Wikipedia. It will allow for an extravaginal orgasm for the male partner (messy but do-able). Just keep a towel handy.
