For teen girls is this normal?!

Question: Do any other teens girls hate having their periods because they are so painful? I haven't found anything that helps, and my mom isn't open to birth control to help with the pain. Have you found anything that helps?

Hi hon!

Stretch! Heard that before?

If your cramps are in front stand with your hand on the wall and feet back a little so that you are leaning into the wall and then push your pelvis forward so you are stretching your lower abdomen.

If you cramps are in your back bend over as far as you can, aim for your toes, or sit in a chair but the goal is push out your lower back muscles to stretch them.

You have to be pretty intentional about these are they aren't in the normal set of stretches.

This will only last for a little while if at all but they are pretty good to add in with other things.

I hate periods.
Excersizing helps a lot with pain and cramps. Midol, and banana's too!

Thankfully my period hasn't been too painful.

I like a little exercise, ibuprofen, and a heating pad.

Premsyn was the best for me. Unfortunately, when you are younger and your period is newer, it sucks A LOT. It does get better though. It's sad that she won't do the pil to help you out because it helped me considerably. I think she thinks you will use it as and excuse to have sex, which is definitely not the case. Talk to you doc and see if your doc will talk to your mom about your options.

Advil..hot shower, cuddling ;)

I know that my teenage sister has realy bas cramps too. A warm heating pad will comfort and ease the pain, as will a warm bath. Medication wise,.. An ibprofin aka advil, vs tylenol is best with stomach pains.

They say that heating pads work wonders. Have you tried pamprin or even advil? Eventually your mom may be willing to let you go on the pill. They really do make your periods lighter and more tolerable. Hope this helps!

Midol

Heating pad or a hot towel on the stomache. Taking warm baths/showers. Exercising helps you take your mind off of it. And pain relievers :)

You definately should stay away from caffeine during your period. Caffeine enhances the cramping. Exercise is said to help the cramps as well. I know, who wants to exercise when you hurt but.....Try taking a warm bath, taking a Midol then lying down with a warm compress on your tummy. That seems to help me through those times. If it gets unbearable, you should see your OB/GYN, soon.

yes they are awful when they are excruciating. Hot water bottles do help but only if you can lie down. Otherwise you can get over the counter pain killers that target period pain. Warm baths help a bit too. Try drinking plenty of water the days before you get them and avoid too many processed foods. this can help with the bloating. If they are extremely bad it could be a sign of something serious. Consider seeing a doc

I don't mind my period. Its like my really distant but in contact friend who visits every month.loi. I see commercials with women talking about reducing their period down to 3 or less days with birth control, and I could never do that. It isn't that bad people! Its like 4 to 6 days of uncomfortableness and then its gone for a while. The only thing I don't like about getting my period is getting a pimple or two and being really weak and helpless. Its hard for me to stand and want to go to school because of the fatigue... I can live without that!

1/2 the time you cant even tell you're on your period! Get over it...

Hi,
The Dysmenorrhoea is the clinical term for painful menstrual periods when cramps are frequent and severe. Dysmenorrhoea is a common gynaecological complaint in adolescents, but the majority of cases are not associated with a disease and the physical examination is normal.

THE TREATMENT

The initial treatment is focused on the relief of pain. Anti-inflammatory drugs may be helpful; this includes aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDS) such as ibuprofen and indomethacin.

In some severe cases, and with disorders such as endometriosis, oral contraceptives may be helpful. They are used in this case to regulate the hormone levels in the body. They may be prescribed even for girls who are not sexually active.

Women who continue to have severe dysmenorrhoea despite the use of NSAIDS and/or oral contraceptives may require laparoscopy for further evaluation.

Mild analgesics are usually effective in treating dysmenorrhoea and oral contraceptives generally control severe cases. Dysmenorrhoea associated with a disease state responds to treatment of the primary problem. A doctor should be contacted if the menstrual cramps are severe or if the discomfort lasts for more than 2 or 3 days.

In addition to medical therapy, there are a number of other ways that can help ease the pain of menstrual periods like:

Regular exercise

Direct heat application in the form of a heating pad, hot water bottle or warm bath may be soothing.

Massage of the lower abdomen and/or lower back

Relaxation exercises

Adequate sleep

Drinking plenty of water

Avoiding caffeine as in coffee, tea, sodas and chocolate just before and during the period

Eating plenty of green leafy vegetables and whole grains

Well mine are sooo bad! Nothing usually helps me not Midol, heating pad or being active. I am now on Mobic for other pains I have been having but that usually helps with my peroids cause it is a musle relaxant, it sucks to have RND/RSD. That just makes it so much worst!! O by the way I will never be able to be on birth control cause I have a blood clotting disorder so I can't even do that!!
I just have to relax sometimes but be busy other times to forget about my period. It might be hurting so much because of the RSD.

Hope you feel better!!

some people just have painful periods. it sucks. being 15, if you want to try birth control, there are places like planned parenthood. you don't need your moms permission to go there. why suffer when there is another way...

yah. it really does suck
but if u think about it its normal
and over 10000 women have it the same time you do
and probably feel the same way

Try small changes in your diet. I have heard peanuts can help with the pain. I'm sure there are other foods out there that can be beneficial. Try an online search for a list.

Good luck.
