Please help, how could my 8 year old daughters hymen break without molestation?!

Question: After 6 months of treatment for incontinance, bedwetting, urinary frequency, painful urination and genitalia pain, I have found out that we are most likely dealing with pelvic problems with my daughter. I have been to doctor after doctor. She has had invasive testing. Now, after 6 months, an ER doc decides to do a straight catheter to compare a urinalysis to the clean catch. The clean catch showed another UTI, the straight cath showed clean, no infection.

I took her to a pediatrition today, she still has abdominal pain and painful genitalia. The doctor did a genitalia exam and I noticed that her vagina is too big, the doctor informed me she has no remaining hymen and is referring her to a gynecologist. It is very painful. Her abdomen hurts from her pelvis to her umbilical region. She screamed when the doctor took a simple swab of the vagina.

She swears that no-one has touched her there, and that she has not put anything there. What else could cause this? Please help.

Yes, girls can "break" open their hymens, from trauma, say a bad accident on a bicycle, but it's not common. With her vagina being too big, her recurrent UTI's , and the bed wetting, it does sound like molestation. Is she ever alone with any men or boys? Has your doctor checked her out for any sexually transmitted diseases? If she has one of those, you can be sure she was molested. The symptoms sound like a pelvic inflammatory disease, but girls don't usually get these if they are not sexually active. I know she is young, but I would take her to a gyn doctor. Bless her heart. I hope you find out soon what it is.

Thats really sad that your daughter is in so much pain.
She could just be scared to tell you that someone did so.. or she might not even remember.
If she swears no one touched her, maybe she was just born like that??
Im so sorry to hear thats heartbreaking.
The only thing you can really do is wait to see what the gyno says..
good luck,
god bless.

Take her to the doctor for an examination.

Ask your doctor! We could only guess and there could be many medical reasons.

I'm sorry to hear this too. That is very sad. Make sure your 1000% sure she wasn't molested. I think children will deny it to the fullest because they think it was their fault. I dont know what else it could be.

the hymen can break from exercise or sports.

Well. I mean I've heard of girls hymen being broken from horse back riding. My best friend's got broken during karate class when she was 10, she took a karate kick straight to the hymen. I personally broke mine during gymnastics. Fell off the beam just the right way. These are certainly more painful ways than sex to break your hymen, but it happens. If something like this were to have happened to your daughter she would know it though. It is quite painful and very bloody. If she swears that she has not been molested and has not penetrated it, I advise you keep giving her the medical attention she needs to figure out what is happening to her. Pelvic problems should be every girls worst nightmare, they are emotionally painful as well as the most physical pain i've ever encountered. Good luck to your little girl.

It can be a lot of things. It happens with gymnastics, karate... and physical activities. I'm surprised her doctor didn't tell you that.

I'm sorry that your daughter is in such pain. Is it possible that her hymen was broken during one her examinations? You said she had invasive testing, and I wasn't sure if that was vaginal or not.

My mother tore her hymen slightly when she was 7 during a bicycling accident. She slipped off the bike and her groin hit the bar that connects the wheel to the seat. She was given stitches to help the tearing (I'm not sure if that's customary now, but that's what they did then, I suppose). Is your daughter athletic? Does she ride a bike a lot? Even normal athletics and bike riding can cause the hymen to wear slightly.

Otherwise, I'm not really sure what to tell you, but I hope you find your answers soon.

Sorry to hear about the trauma your daughter is going through. May God give you all the courage to overcome this difficult time very soon. Hymen breaking could be due to games, horse riding or sometimes even when some one slips and falls. Don't worry on that account.
