Pubic lice?!

Question: My little sister (she's sixteen) has a serious itch down there, and thinks it's pubic lice. But she's never had sex. Is there any way she could have caught them not from having sex? Or is there any thing else it could be? And can you get an over the counter remedy for this?

You can get over the counter treatment for pubic lice or crabs.

Pubic lice or crabs are usually white or yellow in appearnace or red after feeding. If your sister is itching it probably is pubic lice. You don't always catch it through sex but through using someones towel or their clothing too.

she could of had it from using someone eles towel that had public lice...or if you used someones underwear that had publib lice

ITs possible to get pubic lice by using some one elses towel soap ect. She may of also gotten in from a public bathroom. Im not sure as to an over the counter medicine. sorry.

I dont know if she has crabs go see a doctor!! gosh

Yes, it is possible to get them in the way the others said...but you can also see them. They hang on at the base of the hair shaft, and feed on your blood. If she sees bugs, she's got them. I think any OTC lice treatment will work. She'll probably have to shave. Tell her not to panic, it's possibly just dry skin, too...seeing a doctor is always the best answer for any questions! Good luck to your sister!

Pubic lice can be picked up from a public toilet, clothing, or contact with other items that have been in contact with another's private area. Pubic lice are visible to the naked eye but are very small. Tell her to check her pubic hair closely, using a magnifying glass if you have one. If this is what she has she can buy medicine over the counter called RID or NIX. Be sure to follow the directions exactly. It usually requires more than one treatment. She will also need to wash her clothing and bedding in HOT water. If she does not see any lice there are other causes of itching such as dry skin, ingrown hairs, skin infections, and yeast infections on the skin. Tell her to keep the area clean and be sure to fully dry the area before dressing. Wear cotton underwear and change them every day. If it does not clear up in a couple of days contact a physician.

That area is just prone to itch. She probably doesn't have pubic lice. I think you can see them.

She could actually just shave off the hair to get rid of them if she actually has them. Or, comb them out.
