Antidepresents?!

Question: has anyone took them b/c i might but ive heard alot of bad stories about them

Answers: has anyone took them b/c i might but ive heard alot of bad stories about them

I took antidepressants for 3 years, and found they had a great effect on me. It took me a few tries to find the right pill, and had some unpleasant side effects with one, including heart palpatations. When I started having the bad side effects, my doctor immediately switched my pills. Once I got set on the right pill, they made a big difference in helping me feel better. They didn't make me feel numb, they didn't dull my libido, they didn't make me suicidal. The important thing is to get antidepressants only from a trained psychiatrist, and make sure your doctor is monitoring you closely. It's important that the patient is honest with the doctor about the side effects too, because if you leave anything out, the doctor can't help you.

i have to take them too and all the do is make me numb

I've known more than one person for whom clinical depression was a fatal illness - people commit suicide to end the pain. That's the result of depression that doesn't get the right treatment. How bad could the medication be, by comparison?

Modern antidepressants are safer than most other kinds of drugs, and they treat a disease that can be painful, incapacitating, and even dangerous. Some people - not everyone - experiences side effects, though those are usually mild and temporary. As with any medicine, the goal is to get the maximum good effect and minimum (preferably zero) bad effect, but you can't know in advance how you'll respond.

A patient has to weigh the 100% certainty of depression's destructive effects against a small chance of problems (usually minor) caused by the drug. Even aspirin has side effects - nothing is perfectly safe. For many people antidepressants make life livable and have no bad effects at all.
