My momhas always been overweight but fairly active it seemed no matter how littl!

Question: how active she was she couldn't stop gaining.she'd tell the doc she barely ate+he wouldn't believe her.even though she walks a couple of miles almost daily, works full time, takes care of the housework, the same as every other working mother does her legs are very heavy and painful.the only differece is now that she is older,[mid-40s],she seemed to be gaining more.last fall she went to the doctor again.our doc wasn't there, the locum took time to really talk to her, sent her for tests,+found her thyroid is not working.surgery took care of problem,+she hasn't gained an ounce in months.now she has hope + needs suggestions for very easy exercises to start with.asked the doc+his snotty answer was shes too heavy to do anything.but she isn't,she is mobile, not for long distances, but she still works, etc. anyone have any suggestions to help us get her started?no access to healthclub.any ideas would be appreciated.nasty comments will be reported.thank you for any help you can offer!

i hear you, we had a similar issues in our family and i wanted to tell you that while it is exciting your mum has finally stopped gaining the weight, it won't be easy to lose it. don't let her get discouraged, even if all she loses is a pound a week its weight gone! thats what is important.
to keep her focused try this, every time she loses a pound, put a pound of margarine in the freezer! as long as she sees the evidence of what she has lost she will stay motivated. and remind her that the pound she lost is fat - just like the margarine! good luck sweetie, and keep us posted on how she is doing!
as for exercises, no, get her to walk, even if its just to the corner and back, then after a couple of weeks she'll be able to walk more. keep her company! all of you! cheer her on!

You can go on the internet and find all kinds of easy exercises you can go at home with very little equipment - even just dumbbells will do wonders. I recommend www.sparkpeople.com. They have illustrations and even some videos of easy and quick exercises to do. Tell everyone you know about the jacka** doctor your mom went to see!!! Hope this helps!

The best type of exercise for your mom would be in the water. It would remove stress from her joints and she would be more comfortable.

first off, why would you stay going to the same doctor? no one should get paid to make comments like that! Ive heard that swimming is the best exercise for someone heavier, or that has trouble moving around more. my grandfather to this day swims almost daily and hes 80 and in great shape. I'd say keep up with the walking, maybe take up biking? Why dont you have access to a health club? are there none near by? planet fitness i find is actually great, i see people of ALL ages and sizes. its just 10 dollars a month for me, very affordable and it really helps with my work outs. i also hear yoga/pilates is great, i actually got a dvd at walmart for a DOLLAR. one dollar. and its pilates, it works really well! good luck to you and your mom, im glad you found out what was wrong!

Just do her reg, routine, if her work is near, just walk, if she takes alchohol, nothing of wheat products or oaths those who are rich in carbo, alchol is not that bad for the body just moderately, bout 17% a day gin for example! something thatll indce heat at night, and sweat in mornin! she can work her own program, if you say shes up to it, wheight is not much of a problem, no biggie atall if they want to shed it.
