I'm getting my tetanus booster tomorrow and im petrified!?!

Question: i'm not being a baby but i just hate the thought of it. I havent had my injection for about 6 years or so, And now im having one tomorrow at school. Dad said it's important to have it. But i'm really scared, I'm 15. And i absolutely hate pain! How can i just calm down? Did it hurt you when you had it at 15?

yes actually you ARE being a baby. The reason most shots hurt is because babies like yourself get themselves all worked up and tense, this means the needle has to literally rip thru the muscle to get the medicine where it needs to go. If you would just grow up, relax and stay loose, the needle slides between the muscle fibers and you often won't feel a thing. You are your own worst enemy, try to grow up a little bit more and relax.

There most likely going to give it in the muscle in your arm. The best thing to do is to not look at the needle when it is being injected into your arm. Also, it might work to bring an mp3 or walkman or sing to yourself one of your favorite songs during the injection. Also, afterwards do not rub it otherwise it will hurt.

Don't worry
this is so ironic but i have my Tetanus, Polio and something else today at school.
You're not being a baby at all, I hadnt had an injection for 7years until today. I was scared but I'm telling you, you don't feel anything!

The needle isn't large at all, it's so fast if you don't look you won't even know that its happening!

DONT WORRY
TRUST ME

Just let your arm relax and look the other way. Don't watch them give you the shot. Depending on the person who gives you the injection there can be no pain at all or just a little pain. Don't worry about it and relax. Relaxing your arm is the most important. If the needle goes into a tight muscle it will hurt more than if your muscles are relaxed. I don't remember any of my shots when I was 15. It is too long ago.
