Question: I know that birth control can help to clear up acne in some women. Does it also have an effect on the oiliness of skin? I have very oily skin and am going to go on Ortho Tri Cyclen.

yes it reduces it, birth control pills are used for acne.

A woman we know went on this to clear up her skin. She was not a high-risk individual - her weight was average, non-smoker, under 35.....and one morning she woke up and was unable to move the left side of her body. The Ortho Tri Cyclen triggered a massive stroke. That was a year ago...she is still working to recover her health.
To answer your question directly, yes it should affect that because hormones are a contributing factor to the problem. There's no way of knowing for sure until after you've taken it for awhile, but again please be sure to discuss all possible risks and side effects with your doctor first. There are other options available to you.
Don't be scared by the post about the woman with the stroke. Risk of stroke does increase on the pill, but anyone can have a stroke no matter what type of birth control they're on or even if they're not on it at all. I was on Ortho Tri-Cylin for years with no problems. You should discuss it with your doctor and decide for yourself, but I believe the advantages FAR outweigh the risks.
My skin isn't very oily so I didn't notice a difference, but I get very few pimples because of the pill. I'd guess it would help though.
