i got mine when i was 11 but ive heard and known others to have their period at 9.....it just depends on a persons body...yes nine is young and im sure your heart is tearing knowing that you no longer have a "little" girl but i think it would be okay to sit down with her to discuss a few things and to ask her if shes got questions about it. If shes passed over for the talk she may face getting her period for the first time and not know what to do or become uncomfortable talking about it at that point. I think discussing it in a brief/mature manner wouldnt hurt and if you reach a point of feeling uncomfortable about it-maybe shes asking "too many" questions-stick to the topic and tell her you ll talk with her about "other" things when she gets older.....and express to her that its a gift a woman recieves when shes ready so dont feel left out if her friends start before her and that discussions like the one youd be having should remain private and discreet when talking to her friends (this way shes not embarrassed to talk about it but doesnt become overconfident boasting her new knowledge) Good Luck and besh wishes!! one last thing is- remember how it was all for you when you were younger, and ask yourself what would you have done different when having this knowledge passed on to you.....

I had a friend who started when she was 10. I also knew a girl who had a baby at 12. I find it odd but it happens.

it depends on genetics an stuff like when people in the family started an stuff.

The age doesn't matter, it's just people's bodies being different. I got mine at about 10, which is younger than the average. But it's just an average.

Wow. Definitely sounds like it to me but its not healthy to get your period and start developing breasts at such a young age.

average age is 12-14.
my sister got hers when she was 10. 9 seems a bit early. maybe she is learning about it in school. i had my first sex ed class around that age.

I had a friend who was 8. Most people I know were 13ish though. With medical conditions it can happen any time, the earliest I read about was an infant (can't remember the name but if you google the name "Lina Medina" you can read about the youngest mother ever.) She was a five year old Peruvian girl who apparently had started menstruating during infancy. So, as you can see, there is really no such thing as "too young"!

It's not too young. But the best way to combat this is not to wait for your daughter to ask questions. Start now to explain how her body works about conception, and the dangers of having sexual intercourse too young not just pregnancy but all the nasty STD's that are out there. Do this in a way not to scare her but give her the oppurtunity to ask questions, if you can't answer a question research it on the internet with her. I am sure this will make it not only educational, but will stop her listening to her peer group who often get it wrong from older brothers and sisters. Don't give too much info at once set aside a time each week for the two of you to talk. Good Luck

It is not that bad. Its actually better that she gets it early so later in life she'll know how to deal with it. p.s I got mine when I was ten and I dealt with it pretty good because my mom helped.

no not these days 9 is fine although i think its early but thats nature

hmm well im 13 and got my period when i was 12.5 and ive been told by doctors that ur age when u get ur period has nothing to do when your mum got hers. the majority age is 12 and a half - 13.
