Cognitive therapy seeks to identify and change "distorted" or "unrealistic" ways of thinking, and therefore to influence emotion and behaviour. Seems that this would be what is needed in your case since you do seem to have a decent sense of Self-Esteem........Otherwise, how could you even contemplate taking the steps to pursue a Masters Degree as well the desire to set up a Business. These are huge goals that a person with no self Esteem would not even contemplate, or consider. You seem to, as you said "lose your faith" ; I believe this is because you probobly hear Mommas voice in the back of your head saying unkind things and then you doubt yourself. Yes , that low self esteem creeps up , but through cognitive therapy you can learn to quiet the voices that may cause you to give up on a goal you may have or lose faith in yourself.
Any one of us can have low self esteem and it may not be related to treatment we recieved as children. For those types of people, just going to a SEMINAR may be helpfull, however your case is based on years of negative verbal abuse. You will need Therapy for that.
Best to you and your goals; You are worth IT!!

I would start by seeing a Psychologist if possible. I'm sorry to hear about this. We tend to lead our life by example and having someone tell you that your not worth anything, I'm sure doesn't help you. You have to remember that your an adult and to some extent it is your mothers illness that made her like this, sometimes she can't control what she says. I know it's a little late now, but better late then never. You seem to be successful. You are 32 and on your way to a Masters Degree and a business. I think that is wonderful and you should be very proud of yourself! I hope you find inner peace with yourself and with your mom. Best of luck.

I would suggest speaking to a general private therapist first. This person can offer an assessment by talking with you for a session or two, and then if he/she can't help, then you can get a referral to an associate that can help in the areas that you're in need.

Best of luck to you. And congrats for taking the first step toward a healthy future.

i'd look into seeing a psychologist. Cognitive therapy is what I would say is best.
