Depo Shot Help!?!
Question: Ok my sister is 16 and she is going to take the shot in a week and she heard about the weight gain issue and she wanted to know how big will she probably be getting.
She weighs 85 pounds.

Depot shot is basically given when you want the drug to act over a limited area of the body over a long period of time. So when a depot shot of a steroid or any medication is given, it gets stored in the injected area and is released ini very small therapeutically effective quantities to work ONLY on the limited area, and since it is released in such a small amount over a period of time, its level in the blood is very very low.
Hence, it CAN NOT cause any significant weight gain... Any weight gain issues that other people (who've replied to your question) have had, is probably because of some other reason, as depot preparations are locally acting mode of therapy, aimed at minimizing such side effects as weight gain and low immunity.
Oh and yes, there are no osteoporosis issues following a single depot shot... NEVER. So dont worry about that either.
So rest assured, your sister WONT gain any weight following this depot shot (atleast not because of the depot shot) and will surely be benefitted from the therapy.

i went on the shot and gained maybe 10 pounds at the most, but it was worth it to get rid of my period!
this is my first month being on the shot and so far i've actually lost a little bit of weight. so maybe i haven't gotten the full effect of the weight gain thing, but i also go to the gym a lot. if she doesn't want to lose weight, make the gym or exersizing a daily thing.
I gained about 5 pounds in a year...not much. But my periods stopped and all I experienced was a little cramping and slight bitchiness around the time of my normal cycle.
she wont put on any weight if she eats right and drinks pleanty of water
i suggest that she doesnt go on the depo shot as the effects are irriversable and can lead to ostioperosis in the future if its not for sex then she could think about taking the pill. i strongly dissagree with depo as i was on it for 2 years and have been contraception free now for 2 and cannot concieve ( have been trying for a year and a half)
at such a young age i suggest talking with the doc for other methods
You just have to be conscious of what you eat. I have been on Depo for a year and have been dieting at the same time. I have actually lost 30 lbs. If the possiblility of gaining weight is a concern ask your doctor how you can maintain your current weight.
