You're touching your cervix?!?!

Question: So I'm looking around womens health and i see a lot of women who are posting questions about their cervix's. I've seen questions where women ask "How is your cervix suppose to feel before/after your period" and stuff like that. I DIDN'T KNOW WE ARE SUPPOSE TO CHECK OUR CERVIX'S! Are we? I'm 18 years old, i thought i'd know all this stuff by now.

So can you touch your cervix? What does it feel like?

O.o

You don't have to touch or check your cervix. Many women do this if they're charting their cycle, sometimes in order to conceive a child, and sometimes just to keep track of when they ovulate. Checking the position of the cervix is optional in most cycle charting programs, but it can be helpful if you don't produce much cervical mucous, which is one of the primary ways of checking your fertility signs.

If you're not charting your cycle, it's best not to check your cervix since your hands can contain bacteria that could cause infection. If you're interested in charting and you want to check your cervical position, make sure your nails are trimmed and your hands are washed well immediately before you check it.

i think the cervix is like 6 inches deep with in the u know body i dont think its possible unless u know ummm yea

Firstly this isn't something most women do or need to do. But there's no harm in it.

Your cervix is inside your vagina, about four to six inches up. Every woman is different and you may not be able to easier reach yours. It will feel rubbery, about an inch and a half wide with a depression in the middle.

You can touch it - it won't hurt anything. But, you don't have to - most don't check it all the time.

As far as the feeling, it changes with your cycle. You will find it soft at times, hard at times and everything in between. You will find it at the upper end of your vaginal - most don't have trouble reaching in that far.

The first time you intend to feel it, you should not be standing. Many feel light headed when their cervix is touched / rubbed and while the chance of falling is remote, its not worth the risk.
