Irregular period...help..?!

Question: I'm 14 and I know I'm young enough that an irregular period is normal. But I've had it for 3 1/2 years now and this is the first time it's been...different. I only get it every other month and when I do get it, it only lasts 2 to 3 days. What might have triggered this? Why does it happen? Why is it so short? Why does it skip every other month? Help...

Firstly if its short you are lucky! People can have them up to like 10 days. Stress, extreme weight loss and exercise and bad diet can tigger irregular periods, but they can be easily treated using birth control tablets. Make sure you are eating right.

it could still be an irregular period. if not then you should check with you're doctor, i don't think it's extremely serious.

Periods come to every woman differently, some people only get periods once or twice a year! I shouldn't worry about it, manythings can affect it like stress or a change in diet

You are still very young without much history to go by, however, this is what happened to me. I suffered with irregular periods a good portion of my life. It was often caused by too low body fat as I exercised and ran a lot. I also did not eat a healthy diet as I was in the Modeling industry and always dieting. Another issue that caused it was stress. I was traveling a lot and under a great deal of stress at work. It just made things happen all through my body, but especially with me cycles. It got so bad sometimes that i would have to take a pill from the Doctor to bring it back.

It may seem great to be without a period, however, it is not normal. A woman's body is designed to ovulate and without that regular function, so many tings will change.

Please see your OBGYN and tell them what is happening. They may also do a thyroid test and some other tests to look at certain levels in your body. Then really think about your diest, your exercise routines, and your level of stress. I hope at 14 neither of these issues are bad.

Good luck.

singthings right.

when you're young it is very common to have irregular periods, it is because of your body getting used to the hormones you are now producing in varied quantities. It will take a few years for your body to become leveled out and for you to fall into a regular cycle. Also you have to remember that periods go off lunar cycles, not calender days. Calender days vary up to 4 days each year. So starting on the 12th one month doesn't mean you will start on the 12th every month.
