When you ask drs this question - they tend to say that if you're not using it for contraceptive reasons (some people use it for hormone managment) then you need to way up some of the risks, like raised blood pressure with the benefits if you're on long term, there might be more targeted things you can use.
But if you're using it for contraceptive reasons then, as long as you don't get any side effects and go in for your 6 months checks when you need a repeat prescription you should be fine - it is designed by definition for prolonged use. And man, is having an unwanted pregnancy gonna raise your blood pressure!
If you are unhappy with the pill then discuss other forms of contraception with your dr, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it i say. And also your boyfriend isn't a dr - you shouldn't always listen to men about these things!

If you couldnt take it continually, your gp would not prescribe it for you. Simple as that. I was on the pill for 17 years, when I came off it to have my daughter, I got pregnant straight away.

i asked the doctor the same question a few months ago and she said it was fine as long as it agrees with you, keep with it.
