Does pcos cause breast tenderness?!

Question: I have pcos and for the last 2 periods I have had very painful breasts from ovulation up to my period to the point that it hurts when water hits then in the shower and it hurts just to take off my bra. is this a symptom of pcos or is it just me? I was diagnosed in march of last year so please note that I'm not asking if I have pcos. the other thing is that they don't hurt so bad this month any reason you can think of? I have bulging viens on them to and my nipples and areolas are really huge which has happened in the last 2 months as well just not nearly as painful this month. I suppose I should be greatful but I can't help but wonder why.

It can be... it can also be a symptom of pregnancy... or simply changes in your hormone levels.

If it worries you call your specialist.... it may be beneficial to check that the cysts haven't done anything funny!

Good Luck

Tender breasts is from having your period, regardless if you PCOS or not.

Breast care specialists say that for most women, breast discomfort waxes and wanes with the menstrual cycle. Right before and during menstruation, higher-than-usual levels of the female hormone estrogen may cause one or both breasts to swell and become tender. Discomfort ranges from mild tenderness in some women to excruciating pain in others. (Taking oral contraceptives produces similar effects.) For many women monthly bouts of breast discomfort disappear with menopause--unless they undergo estrogen replacement therapy.

Sometimes premenstrual changes foster the development of tender but harmless cysts in the breasts' milk-producing glands. Once labeled fibrocystic disease, these tiny fluid-filled sacs are actually quite normal. Fibrocystic changes are less likely in women over age 35, because with age, glandular tissue--where breast cysts tend to occur--is replaced with fat tissue.

With PCOS you have an increased amount of testosterone, thus the excess facial and body hair - rather than an increase in estrogen unless you're on birth control pills. I'm on the Ortho Evra patch which has 60% more estrogen than birth control pills so I always experience breast tenderness during my period.

Test for pregnancy, when I was pregnant with my son, I had enlarged and darkened nipples and aureoles. Good luck! :)
