Going to the gyno?!

Question: I go for my annual checkup and pap smear in about 2 weeks. I had a few questions. I have been going for 6 years. But what if you have something wrong w/ you down there when u go but u didnt know like a yeast infection or whatnot. Also I want to go off the pill and start trying to have children with my husband, but am somewhat afaird to ask the doctor as I fear she will say it is not a good idea because I cant handle a pap smear so how could I handle pregnancy. What should I do about both issues. I dont have a yeast infection was just a hypothittaclly question.

Actually, I think your yeast infection comment was a good one. I have been to the gynecologist and gotten a pap test, and they sent me a letter telling me I had a yeast infection at the same time. So it's possible to not know something is wrong and then have them figure it out. That's the purpose of the pap test and exam: to see if something is wrong.

I'm assuming you've had sex with your husband; he is likely larger than the scope they use for the pap test. It's just that being in the office is such an uncomfortable procedure. No one likes going to the doctor, spreading their legs open, and having a cold, plastic instrument inserted into them. But having a baby is a beautiful thing, and you can always have an injection for the pain of child birth. I do not think your doctor would make that kind of suggestion to you; she may tell you it is unwise to have children if you have some kind of medical condition, but a woman's body was made for having children. I wouldn't worry about that.

Ok, the purpose of that test is they want to make sure everything is ok with you down there. If you didn't know you had an infection they would be able to find out, and then let you know if anything was not normal within a week. Also, it is good to have one before you start to get pregnant that way the check your cervix, uterus, just to give you the ok. I know it is so uncomfortable, but it is necessary, and can even detect cervical cancer. So it is important to get these done.

If there's something wrong down there, that's all the more reason to go. Your doctor won't make a decision for you regarding having children, that's a personal and major decision only you can make. I think there's a little voice in your own head that's telling you the time might not be right.

I don't know ANY woman that enjoys going to the Gynecologist! I dread it so much that in the past I skipped an annual exam or two. Of course, after realizing it could be a matter of life and death I started going regularly again, but I don't enjoy it, and I would even go so far as to say I hate it.

Your doc is a professional and she will not advise you not to have children. As much as I dread the gyno, I had two children the natural way. You only get checked vaginally a couple of times throughout your pregnancy, and there are drugs that get you through the pain of childbirth. If you have something wrong with you at a regular visit, the doctor will give you medication to clear it up. Relax.

Usually the nurse will do a screening of questions and you are given a chance to mention anything abnormal. So if for example you are experiencing burns or discharge you should say something and the doctor can administrate a test for it. Pap doesn't check for infections.

As for you wanting to get off BC and have a baby. Your doctor has no right to have an opinion unless its medically relevant. If she/he does tell you something you should change gynos.

Hope I helped

well my opinion you should feel comfortable talking to your doctor and if you had an infection didn't know it a good Dr would tell you you have this. and the pregnancy thing i think that its your choice and all paps are uncomfortable lol Ive had 3 kids and still i sometimes feel like im gonna cry the clamps they use on me i feel are to big and they kind of pinch and then the pressure from them hun its normal to not like them. and the exam has no affect on your mothering abilities

Hello. If you had a yeat infection or something similar you would likely experience symptoms that would alert you that something was wrong. But, if you didn't know and they found something it would be good because pretty much everything is treatable and most things are curable so it's better to know than to potentially impact your reproductive system and fertility, ESPECIALLY if you're getting ready to try to have a baby.

As far as your doctor telling you it's not a good idea to have a baby, I would be shocked if they said that. No one likes having the PAP, but just because you don't doesn't mean you shouldn't have children.

Obviously you have to take into consideration the things your body will go through, not just during the delivery but throughout your pregnancy. If you are willing to do it, you should be fine having a baby and your doctor shouldn't tell you otherwise.

Good luck!!

Sweetie, I've had three kids and I STILL squirm when having a pap!!! And my babies were 10 and 11 pounds!!! Not lying.
