A doctor can decline your request. However, if you feel that it is important to have your labor induced, perhaps you can have the physician who treats your SPD consult with you pre-natal physician and explain why you are in an inconvenient situation.

He isn't obliged to do what you would like (though I sometimes wish it was the case) but he is obliged to perform the best care he can give you. Tell him how much pain you are in, and maybe he can reconsider. Also, maybe look into alternative pain relief such as acupuncture, pre-natal massage, etc. Congratulations, by the way!

I am not sure what SPD is but the dr knows at what week the baby can safely be born. My daughter was born at 40 weeks and my 2 sons were both born at 38 weeks. Just talk to your doctor. Thats what they are there for....Good Luck!!

I guess it would depend on how you handled your first labour. If you are in that much pain your OB should really be willing to listen to you. However, an induction doesn't always mean pain free either - if it's that bad you may want to consider a C-section. But either way, if your Doc should be willing to listen to your concerns.
