Does anyone use Paragard?!

Question: Does anyone have positive or negative experiences with Paragard?

I am 21, no children, and want something long term, not hormonal, and free of maintenance.

I got the Paragard in May of 07. I am also 21 and childless. I know that they say there is a higher risk for expulsion if you are childless, but I've had it for almost a year with no scares or problems as far as that. Just make sure to check your strings after your period every month. I really love it. Before I was on the pill, and it made me have no sex drive and I just didn't feel good. I switched mostly because I was tired of hormones and wanted my sex drive back!!

Insertion is the worst part, but only lasts a few seconds. After that, you may have light spotting for about a month. Then, when you have your regular period it may be heavier than it was before. I had that problem for about the first three months, and now my period is pretty normal and lasts about 5 days. I feel really great, and I think it was the best birth control decision I ever made. It's also great that it lasts for 9 years. Good luck deciding, hope I was of some help!

I had it for like 5 months, and all I did was bleed. Not one single day did I stop bleeding. It was awful, and so were the cramps. Finally I just decided to take it out.

mine fell out!!!! and i got pregnant!!!! and had a miscarriage. well i say fell out but it was more like one day the strings that are attached were way lower then they should have been and i gave it a pull and it was out.

I'm not sure why all4oldc... got a thumbs down. My experience with Paraguard was very similar to hers. But everyone is different. For me, the pros definitely out weigh the cons. From what I've found out researching the Paraguard before I had mine inserted it seems to be one of those things that you either love or hate. I love it. So based on personal experience I would definitely recommend it as long you understand that there are some minor risks involved including the possibility that your body won't handle the device well and you'll be miserable. But overall...good idea. Talk to your doctor just in case but I think it's one of the best options available.

I am totally sorry ,I have no answer for this question , but if I were female and it hurt that much and the bleeding last that long. I would say heck no. there are a lot of other products out there that does not hurt. use them. lots of luck.
