Is it true about the "miracle pill?!


Question: my mother says to me. you knwo i saw that women who hav eexcess facial hair have too much testosterone and it causes acne, they also have irregular periods. she said if you go on the pill, it takes care of hte acne, the periods and fixes your hormones, makes you less mood swingy. is this true? should i ask my doctor?

If you're talking about hormonal birth control, it can help some of those things, but the key word is *can*. It's possible, but it doesn't work for everyone that way. There are also a lot of possible negative side effects to hormonal birth control, too. I would hardly refer to it as a "miracle pill", although there are some benefits for some people (other than the benefit of reduced chance of pregnancy).

Putting estrogen in your system does not get rid of excess testoterone....

you should ask your doctor. Although, birth control can help acne and give you regular periods. I don't think it helps with mood swings.

it depends, yes, some birth control pills can do that, although probably not to the extent to which you are thinking. and yes, there is another that can disrupt your normal periods. if you are interested, definately talk with your doc about it.
