How can you tell if a bra fits properly?!

Question: I'm curious about this because when I got measured the woman who did it was like this bra is too small (the one i was wearing) but I thought it was just fine. How could she tell it didn't fit, can you help please so I have future reference.

Please don't include stupid answers like 'You can just tell' I'm willing to the give 10 points for the best answer.

Thanks in advance! xxx

A lot of factors. A bra should never hurt or dig in anywhere. Your boobs should never spill out the top or sides. There should be no extra room in the cup, like in the tips near your nipples. And the straps should stay up on their own and not fall of the shoulders. Those are just a few things but comfort is most important. Also, if you find a bra you like, go back and buy a few more in a couple different colors because good bras are hard to come by. They also discontinue styles pretty quickly in the bra industry.

The bra must lift and seperate without sqaushing the breasts into the chest and without digging into the shoulders.

Determining your Bra/Band size
(ribcage circumference measurement)
1. Measure around the chest directly under the breast at a constant height with the cloth measuring tape. Add 5 inches to that measurement. This dimension is your bra/band size (If the bra size works out to an ODD number go up one inch to the next EVEN number.) This should equal the circumference around the chest, directly above the breasts/under the arms.
2. Now measure around the chest at the height of the fullest part of the breast. The measuring tape should be held horizontal, flat on your back, and your arms should be down. Make a note of that measurement (only used for comparison) and compare it to the Bra Size from step 1.
Determining your Cup size
(projection of breasts from chest wall)
3. To determine the proper Cup Size, find the difference between step 2 and step 1 (step 2 - step 1.) Use the chart below to determine your Cup Size.

Half inch=AA cup
One inch= A cup
Two inches=B
Three inches=C
Four inches= D
Five inches=DD
Six inches=F
Seven inches=G

If youve been measured then you'll already know your size so theres no point in me telling you how to measure. You shouldnt always stick religiously to your size, just use it as a general size, you may need to go up or down a little in band or cup sometimes as, like clothes, bra sizes can vary slightly from shop to shop. A few rules to go by though - The straps shouldn't dig in to your shoulders or slip off, the skin shouldn't ooze out the sides or cups, if you can pull it away from you really far whilst youve got it on then its probably too big, if it feels tight or uncomfortable then its too small, if theres a gaping hole between the breast and cup when you bend over then its too big

Certain types of bras suit certain types of boobs aswell. Balconettes suit those who arent full at the top of the breast as they squash them upwards but they might be too uplifting for full breasts. Push ups are good for small boobs but dont always suit larger boobs

Unfortunately, the majority of women can't tell if a bra fits (or rather, the majority wear bras that don't fit). I'd stick with the advice of the woman who measured you or get a second opinion. The bigger your boobs, the more important it is - a poor bra will store up back trouble for you later in life.

I dont know if this is relevant, but I've gotten measured and that size they give me is way different than what I'm wearing. I think it's because I wear one and stretch it out, sometimes a whole size!! If you tried on the size she told you and it didn't feel right, go get measured somewhere else. At JC Penny's they measure and at Victoria's Secret, too. VS, I think, has the most comfortable bras.

The last time someone measured me, they got the strap size one size too small and the cup size one size too big (I actually laughed when she told me what she thought it was). I suggest trying the size they measure and also bras one cup size smaller and bigger and one strap size smaller and bigger. Try it on with clothes that are fairly fitted - like a knit sweater or a fitted T-shirt - the straps should not dig in anywhere and you should neither be stuffed into the cups or swimming around in there.

if the strap around the back is ina straight line rather than riding up or hanging down, and you can not pull it out really far, then this is fitting corretly ,if you can pull it out really far from the front then this is not correctly fitted

if your boobs are in the cup comfortably and do not have anything popping out around the armpit or nipples pop out or have a plunging clevage (squashed together) as though its plung bra when it is not, then the cup fits fine

well idk the women who measured me at vs. gave me a bra that i thought was too big but she said its fine.. i still wear the bras that fit me the way that i like it.. i guess it doesnt matter as long as your comfy. and the bra doesn't squeeze ur boobs. lol

A bra fits best when your entire breast fits in the cup and it is not cutting into your sides, back and shoulders. A bra that fits properly gives you a better overall look and also prevents them you from premature sagging.

Oops, at this moment I am not using it ..,

80% of us wear the wrong size bra.

It should fit nicely and be comfortable and not make your breasts look like they are in the center of your torso.

i did those steps and i am 32 on step one added 5 and went up 1 to get 36
i did step two and got a difffernce of 4 wich is a D im toatlly not a d im only an a!!

it should feel comfortable
get it checked at m and s they will advise you

The underband should be level all the way round (not riding up at the back) and be tight enough (without digging in) so that if you pulled the straps off of your shoulder, the main part of the bra would stay put. Ideally when you first buy it you should be comfortable with it on the loosest hook so that as it stretches after a while, you can tighten it onto the other hooks. The cups should give a smooth fit so that nothing is bulging out at the sides or top (cup too small) or wrinkling (cup too big). Like shoes and clothes, different styles and brands of bra fit differently so always try the bra on and don't assume you will be the same size in every shop. You don't need a tape measure to work out bra size- once you know how it's supposed to look and feel then you can figure it for yourself.
