No period on Mirena?!

Question: Who else had their period instantly disappear? This would seem wonderful, but it leaves me wondering about pregnancy. She had such a hard time putting it in b/c I have a curved cervix, I wonder if it's working properly. Ah, it's so rough being a girl! I wonder, also, because most people's period gradually gets lighter and goes away. This makes since b/c lining gets less and less until practically nothing. But to instantly disappear?

I got my Mirena Nov. 12th, 2007, a week or so later I had a period that was extremely light and lasted 3 days. I have not seen it since which is GREAT considering the reason I got the IUC was not for bc but instead to resolve my menstrual issues (nothing else had worked with me).

Only 20% of women who get fitted with the Mirena cease to have their menstruation; the rest continue to have it as usual or lighter and shorter.

Although the Mirena is 99.9% effective there's still that 1 in 1000 pregnancy possibility so if you're concerned about pregnancy, pick up a home test.

you should check with ur DR

Some women with Mirena do stop having their period altogether. It's a normal side effect of the hormones. However, I was under the impression that it happened over the course of at least the first couple of months as your periods get progressively lighter. How long ago did you have it inserted? If it's been at least a couple of months I wouldn't worry about it. If you skipped your next period immediately after it was inserted you might want to check with your doctor just in case. But in general it's a completely normal side effect. Enjoy it.
