Using Clearblue fertility monitor....?!

Question: to not get pregnant?

Is it a good plan to use the clearblue fertility monitor to know when my peak days are and not have sex on those days?

Sort of like natural family planning i suppose...

While such fertility monitors are FDA approved to assist in obtaining pregnancies, they are not approved as a method of contraception (and even the ClearBlue website highlights the fact that it should not be used as a method of contraception).

The reason? The failure rate is relatively high, anywhere from 4-10%. This results from the fact that sperm can survive in a woman's reproductive tract for up to six days.

That said, it is probably better than nothing at all if other forms of contraception (for whatever reason) is not right for you. Just know that there are many forms of contraception out there (condoms, birth control pill, diaphragms, IUD, sponge, vasectomy, tubal ligation, etc). Choose the type appropriate for your lifestyle but be aware of its success/failure rates.

Think using protection would be a better idea!
