My mom told me last week that she has a hernia, she said shes had it for YEARS?!!
Question: She said she got it after she had her gall bladder and something else removed. I thought hernias were dangerous? If not deadly? Its in her upper right abdomen right around the scar..I'm just a little confused by all this..is she in any danger??

not all hernias are dangerous most of the time, they're just painful and annoying. i'm sure if hers was of the dangerous variety, something would have been done about it by now. my mom's had a hiatal hernia (stomach-esophogus thing) since she was 13- she's now 48, hasn't had to do anything about it, and it just bothers her when she eats certain foods and stuff.
ask her, though, if you're worried about it. i'm sure she'll talk to you about it.
If she does not do any lifting or such she will be ok, basically a hernia is a thinness of the abdominal wall, and your insides are trying to get out, so do not be too concerned
not all hernias need immediate attention, but they can become dangerous over time. she should probably get it taken care of as soon as possible, before it *does* become serious.
