If you dont have a period will Metformin "jumpstart"it?!
Question: Metformin used to treat PCOS suffers is under the assumption that the metformin regulating your glucose metabolism will allow you to lose weight and thus your menses will be regulated too. Never worked for me. As you probably know PCOS patients suffer from Insulin resistance, glucose intolerance and hyperinsulinemia. The best way for you to regulate all this is to adopt a low carb diet or what is now being called a low GI diet. This was the only thing that worked for me after many many horrible years of suffering. I am now off all meds, am completley symptom free and have never missed a period since, except when pregnant with my three wonderful children...and I was told I'd never have children! there is a ton of literature now to support this as the medical community is finally waking up about PCOS...do a google search for your own edification.

I seriously doubt it -- Metformin is a medication used to treat diabetics. It has nothing to do with a woman's menstrual cycle.
Metformin (aka "Glucophage") is for people with diabetes. It has nothing to do with your menstrual cycle. I take Metformin because I have type II diabetes, and I am well into menopause. Somebody is yanking your chain if they're telling you it will make you start your period.
