I don't know that there are different types, but a UTI can affect different body parts. The urinary tract consists of the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra. The infection can be in the lower tract, the bladder and urethra, or the upper tract, the ureter and kidney. Lower ones are easier to treat (oral antibiotics and cranberry juice), upper ones are usually more painful and dangerous and harder to treat. They a lot of times have to be treated in the hospital with IV antibiotics. Usually an upper UTI is caused by an untreated lower UTI being left untreated.
