Do you need to get a pap test to get birth control?!

Question: Hi, I would like to go on birth control but I'm not really entirely sure how to go about doing that. Will I need to have a pap test first? if so do I just go to my family doctor, and should I tell her ahead of time I would like a pap test or just when I show up for the appointment?

Usually when you want to get birth control, your doctor will want to do a pap smear and exam to make sure you are otherwise healthy. When you call to make a doctor's the receptionist will usually ask what you are coming in for. Just tell her that you want to get birth control and she will set up the appointment how it's needed.

I never went to my family doctor. There are doctors out there who refuse to give birth control. My mom took me to her gynocologist and I didn't have to get a PAP test because I'm not sexually active but I'm going to be required to get one a year after I start. So if you're put on the pill you dont nessarily need to get tested right away but you will eventually.

i didnt have to and i was sexually active

Most people go to there gyno to get birth control, but your family Dr. is just fine too if they do it. Just call ask to talk to a nurse and ask them what you wanna do. You will have to have a pap if you have had sex. If you are a virgin they will just exma you with their fingers...Anyways good luck

Birth control is not only used to avoid preganancy, but to help with periods too. Some times a PCP will suggest the pill to girls that have painful, or irregular periods. So it depends.

depends on the doctor. I saw a gyno at the age of 12 to be put on birth control and never had a pap until just last year and I am 24. It would probably be easier to see a gyno.
