Birth control question! How long before. . .?!

Question: Okay, I am getting married in June and I decided I would go ahead and start birth control as soon as I can get an appt with the gyno. Anyway, my question is: How long should I take birth control before I can expect it to "kick in"? Like, would a month ahead of time be enough for it to work "for sure" (as for sure as bc pills do work)? Or should it be longer?

Thanks so much for the advice. And if anyone has any advice on which birth control pill to take, definitely let me know which ones and why. I will, of course, ask my gyno, but having your opinions is great too.

You're all wonderful!

Finishing a pack at LEAST is a good start... go with two just to be on the safe side. There's a possibility it will change you a little bit, and sometimes they take some getting used to, so get that out of the way before getting hitched!

If you have problem with acne, Diane 35 is excellent! But, again, the first few weeks or so, it can give you mild morning sickness until your body adjusts, so give yourself some time to get used to it.

Other than that, there truly are a lot of options, so talk to your doctor about which one would be best for you. Congratulations on getting married!

Take a full pack first and finish it. Make sure it's a good bleed. Then on the second one you can start doin your buisness with your man.

Its usually a month.
My friends on it, but theres so many out there its hard to say which one is best.

a month should be plenty, and it usually doesn't take that long. and there a so many different brands/types of the pill that it may take you a while to find one that works for you. i would never recommend a specific brand because it's such a nuanced thing, different for every woman. what works great for one woman, gives another one nothing but trouble.
