Aside from all the other reasons for not putting a tampon in while you're not menstruating, you should really consider using a pad the first few times you get your period.

Women vary on what they prefer, (I, myself, am a tampon lady) but with a tampon comes great responsibility. I'm sure you've heard of toxic shock syndrome, and how incredibly serious it can be. Leaving a tampon in for too long is dangerous, and sometimes even us experienced users can forget it's there (especially if we haven't used the washroom in a while).

Using a pad your first few times will allow you to actually "feel" when it needs to be changed. You'll get to know how much you flow, and how long a pad will last. It's good practice to slowly build up to using a tampon until you are confident and comfortable to change whatever you use, on a regular basis.

And no worries about being a "late bloomer"! Enjoy the freedom while you can! :)

You really shouldn't try putting in a tampon unless you are actually on your period. I know it sounds gross, but the blood actually helps with insertion by lubricating it. The most important thing to remember when you are putting in a tampon is to relax. Also, it will probably take a few tries before you get it right. If it's too uncomfortable or you just can't get it in, just use pads.

You need to be wet to put in a tampon, that's why people use them during the heavy part and it takes forever until you can finally put them in right. I suggest you use pads the first couple times.

you probably could not put it in because you need to be lubricated down there to be able to put something up it. so when you first start your period use a pad then take the time with you and the bathroom to practice. it takes trial and error. some people cant even still use a tampoon, so its just a personal thing. but dont worry if you didnt get it in there yet, because its not suppose to be there yet. and your body knows that.

it is hard to put it in a tampon when you're not on your period.
because it's really dry
sometimes when i'm on like, my last day of mine and there is barely any blood at all. i put the tampon under water for a second to get it wet.
and it's alot easier to get in.
so you should try that.
(but itll probably hurt a little getting it out since it'll be dry)

Like you said, you're a late bloomer.... And some women don't get them until even later so don't worry.

Try looking for a book on it.
It will show you the steps.

hey,

don't be upset that you can't fit a tampon. your vaginal area hasn't expanded...unless you have lost your virginity. i am 18 and i got my period at 11 years old. I did fit a tampon in but it's not safe really because i ended up tearing my inside walls. you should stick to pads until you loose your virginity. or if you really must use a tampom try and use a lubrication so it slides up easily. best of luck. but don't force it.

When i first got my period, it helped me to use a mirror to see what i was doing, and i also put some vaseline on the top of the tampon. It helps it go in easier. Also start with smaller sized tampons like slender-regulars at first so that it is easier. I hope i helped!!

use a knife

you really shouldn't use a tampon if you're not having your period, but if you're just practicing read the instructions on the box, you might have the wrong angle. Follow directions!

Well a tampon will not go in easily when not on your period cause your to dry in there. Best why to insert them at first until you get used to it is to lay on the floor or your bed with a towel under you of course and put it in, when your laying down it helps cause your more relaxed and the vaginal muscles might not be so tense or stand up in the bathroom with one leg up on the side of the tub and do it that way. If you want to practice try getting the tampon a little wet with warm water, just a little and try that see if that helps and read the instuctions in the box they give you good tips too.
