Female Health Question.?!

Question: I recently had a smear test and have been recalled as abnormal cell change was detected. At the time of my smear the nurse wanted to know the date my last period started and I really had no idea whatsover so when she showed me a calender to try and fix a date, I guessed. 4 days after my smear I came on, so my wild guess had been really wild. Is this significant and could it be the reason my cells don't look the way the doctor wants them to look? I know the nurse wrote down my last start date to accompany my smear and this made me look mid cycle when I infact wasn't.

I started getting abnormal smears in my 40s too...I feel sure that it has something to do with 'change' rearing it's ugly head. Each time they checked it out (which is what they want to do for you)
They found nothing.
It may be just the lowering of certain hormones in the body that causes this most times.

Well you'll have to go back in anyway to see what was abnormal about it, then you can tell them how you were off on your period cycle at the time. They will know if it was that or something different, and you can take it from there

it don't have nothing to do with it when you go back they will take a small piece and send it away for further testing try not to worry but make sure you go get the test

I cant tell you how many abnormal paps I have had. Don't even worry, not at this point anyway. If you are near your period, that will throw it off, if you have the slightest yeast infection, that too will throw it off.

Just have another one done, I am sure it will be fine.

Don't let them clip or prod at anything until you have had a second pap!

Good luck!

No, the date of your last period has nothing to do with that. They ask you that for the purpose of knowing if you have recently had a period or might be pregnant, nothing to do with pap results. Abnormal cells are common & may be caused by a viral infection elsewhere in the body, may be nothing, but should be followed carefully until told by your Dr that it is nothing serious.
OB/GYN RN

It won't make a difference. The test is for abnormal (pre-cancerous) cells and the date of your last period is irrelevant. She was just asking to make sure you had a period within the last 4 weeks so that early pregnancy could be ruled out.
