Iud question for the ladies?!

Question: I am getting an IUD Friday. Meanwhile, everyone is telling me horror stories about how much it is going to hurt and get someone to drive me home, etc, etc. Does it really hurt that bad during and after? Should i take some meds before i go get it? help?!

When I got mine my doctor did a pap smear at the same time and I could only tell the difference because she talked to me the whole time. Had mild cramping the rest of the day but took a couple Advil and that helped. I did have my boyfriend go with me to the appointment so he drove home, but only because I absolutely HATE doctors. He was there more for the emotional support than anything. But you should be perfectly fine to drive home or even go back to work if it's absolutely critical.

I had one inserted 6 weeks after my last child was born. I really didn't have much of a problem. It was only a little worse than a pap and it just lasted a few minutes. I would recommend taking some ibuprofen before hand, and if they offer to numb your cervix, let them! I had some pretty hard cramps for a day or so (as well as some spotting) but it was nothing worse than regular menstrual cramps. Make sure you wear a pantyliner, too.

I have heard it is more painful if you have never had children. I don't know if this is your situation, but you should take that into consideration.

i didnt think it was that bad. you feel a pinch then mild cramping.
