Ok, girls only please. My first time with a tampon...?!

Question: Ok, so I've tried putting a tampon in before, quite a few times, and every time, I get it in like an inch, but never any farther. Please, it hurts very badly, and I can't get it in further. What should I do? I've tried every type of tampon you can think of.

start with a plastic applicator, the one with the rounded tip (unscented only). begin with the lightest absorbency, it'll be skinnier. now, you will need some lubricant, and a small mirror. K-Y jelly is the most common. what you're looking for is something designed to be used with condoms. no vaseline, and no hand lotion, you'll get an infection. at home, with the door closed and you're sure not to be disturbed, squat a bit, take the tampon in your dominant hand (the one you write with), sqeeze a pea sized amount of lubricant on the tip of the tampon. make your fingers comfy on the middle part of the tampon, where the two parts come together. grab the mirror with your other hand and find your vaginal opening. press the tip of the tampon up against the opening, stop and take a deep breath and let it out while you gently but firmly push the tampon up the the spot where your fingers are. didn't get anywhere, stop right where you are and insert even more slowly, one tiny bit at at time. give your body time to get used to this, one bit at a time. some people need to get used to the intrusion, others never do and resort to using pads. good luck, and breathe.

its probally the way your putting it in it is not straight up if your sitting it goes in at an upward slant

i understand how you feel about first time tampon experiences
your just nervous and so your thinking its hurting
its just an unusual feeling and your not used to having things up there
or, your putting it in wrong
make sure you go sloooowww on your first few times, and at an angle pointing towards the small of your back
that way you wont have any sudden pain or anything.
just relax, tampax pearl goes in easy
and if you absolutely cant get it, i guess you can always lube it hah

you could have a cyst which is causing you not to be able to put it in or you could be putting the tampon in too early before your vagina is wet.. i hope this helped:)

well gurly, it sounds like ur flow is 2 lite. it generally hurts whenever there is not enough lubrication, because the material in the tampon is very absorbant. i would suggestpads for the time being, also, it depends on your body type and age. it may be harder to wear tampons if ur a petite gurl or if u haven't had ur period for long. p.s. try to get extra narrow and junior ones. they r designed 4 gurls with ur problem. p.s.s. if you think ur not getting it in far enuff, get the tampax pearl compacts. they click whenever its far enuff.

Have you tried slender by Tampax?? It's the smallest in diameter they have. When I first started using tampons it hurt, but as soon as I finally got one all the way it, it became a WHOLE lot easier. Prep yourself and relax and don't think about it. Plus they should come with instructions and a diagram showing how to position yourself. You may be positioned wrong causing horrible pain. Hope this helps!!

First off use one that has a plastic tapered applicator I find those to be the most comfortable. You are probably pushing it straight in. You need to put it at an angle. If your flow isn't too heavy a good way to learn to put it in is by putting your leg up on the toilet seat so you don't have it angle it so much. Check out the little instruction manual inside the box, and it will show you the right angle. Once you get the applicator in just push the tampon in and it should be fine. If it hurts take it out and try again. It should be comfortable. Good luck to you!

Most likely you aren't putting it in right. Try changing your position. Try putting one leg up onto the toilet and try putting it in like that. Always remember to stay clam and don't get tense. Be very gentle. When I first started putting tampons in, it would hurt so bad that I would end up coming out of the bathroom crying. Now that I have gotten used to putting them in, it doesn't hurt at all. I barley even can feel it. Something that really helped me was finding a place in the bathroom to look at and just keeping my eyes there while I tried to put the tampon in. Don't worry, it'll happen when it's supposed to. Just stay clam, don't get frustrated and take deep breaths.
Good Luck!

**edit**
For first time use, I suggest Playtex Teen Gentle Glide.

I know exactly what your going through. The same thing happened to me the fist time i used a tampon. I promise you it will stop hurting after you use them for a while.

You can also use pads as an alternative, and always remember that you need to change tampons reguarly and have them in no longer then 8 hours. :)
