Thyroid Problem???Please help.?!

Question: I went to the doctor 2day, I told her my difficutly loosing weight since I have had sean, that I have been doing everything right and haven't lost a pound. She said I might have a thyroid problem and I took a blood test. I researched the signs on the internet. I have every single one. I have been had this Sharp pain in my leg for no reason. I have had really dry skin, especially with my feet, I even soak my feet in baby oil, scrub them and nothing worked. I have these anxiety attacks, depression medicin hasn't helped. I am always tired, even sleep at least 7 to 8 hours a day and I can't get up in the morning and drink a gallon of tea a day just to function. I have never had problems like this before. I thought it was b.c that was making my periods strange, like spotting ever couple of days for the past 9 months. I dont know, I am scared, I dont know what a thyroid problem is. I just know I might Have one. I have 2 wait 2 days 4 the results but I am freaking out. What the hell is wrong?

Thyroid problems are becoming more common lately, especially in women. Many times this happens after a birth of a baby. Sounds like you symptoms are that of hypothyroidism, also known as an underactive thyroid.

Testing is usually a TSH test. It should be done in the morning, though doctors will say it does not matter. It does matter though because TSH is highest while we sleep and first thing in the morning and lowest around 2PM. A TSH over 2.0 is suspicious of an underactive thyroid, though labs like Quest will say over 5.5 is. My very first thyroid test was 2.6 and I did not get diagnosed. Symptoms became more severe and finally 9 months later the TSH rose to 6.6 and I got diagnosed. Ask what your TSH number was. Then you will know if the thyroid is slowing down. Better thyroid tests are the free t4 and free t3.

If you are hypothyroid, you will be put on thyroid medication. Thyroid testing will be done every 6 weeks until you find the correct dose. This could happen as soon as 3 months or as long as 9 months to a year. The goal is getting the morning TSH around 1.0 if you are on T4 (Synthroid, Levoxyl) The goal on a T4/T3 med would be a midrange free t4 and a high in range free t3.

maybe slow you will get pills one a day and get blood test to regulate it mine is slow been on pills for years no worry

u have me thinkin now i have the same problems

hey its no big thing....thyroid problems are common in women and it is considered mostly non-surgical...u did right by having it examined...however, u must tell your doctor about the symptoms just to be sure...

If it IS your thyroid (which you seem to have quite a few of the symptoms), it means that it is not secreting the thyroid hormone the way it should (in your case...not enough). It is pretty common to develop hypothyroidism during or after pregnancy. You will need to be on a synthetic thyroid medication to properly disperse the hormone through your body. Once you are on the medicine for about 6-8 weeks you will notice a change in your hormones. The thyroid controls so much in your body, it's crazy...I can tell when my levels are off even without a blood test.

Anyway...try not to be too scared. Once your condition gets treated, you will start to feel better. Please check out this link: http://www.thyroid.org/patients/brochure...
It has a bunch of info about the thyroid on here and might help you out. Good luck and take care.

My mom had the same thing a few years ago. You are suffering from these symptoms because of hypothyroidism. This is when the body lacks sufficient thyroid hormone. (thyroid is kinda near your throat). The thyroid runs your body's metabolism, so this is why you feel depressed, and have trouble losing weight.

My mom had the opposite at first (hyperthyroidism), and then they killed her thyroid off by radiation. This caused severe problems, and she is on levothroid for the rest of her life, because she now has hypothyroidism.

You aren't going to die, so no need to freak out. Hypothyroidism is easier to treat, you can take levothroid.

Heres a website about it...

Thyroid problems are VERY common and easily treated most of the time/ Doctors will typically check your thyroid like this when anyone has weight gain or loss and fatigue. Don't stress..I'm sure everything will be fine.

i know 3 brazil nuts a day can help the thyroid function properly, also gluten intolerance can also interfere with thyroid function. My suggestion is see a traditional chinese medicine prac they seem to have a lot of answers without a heap of testing and guess work. the medicine tastes awful but it works.. hope this helps and try not to freak out.

this may help

But its not fatal and your body should restor itself overtime. WHOA...im going to see my doctor a.s.a.p. NOW!!!!

-THANX FOR ASKING A LOT.

If you do not have any palpable or visible swelling of your thyroid, you should wait for the blood test results. The test must show TSH, T3 and T4 numbers and thyroid antibodies (to check for hypothyroid condition or Hashimoto disease).
