Mirena and PMS?!

Question: I cannot take conventional birth control, the hormones are too strong...I get migranes and dizziness and lots of other side effects. I've had the Mirena IUD since May 2007. It's been great so far, no side effects....well, up until now. I never used to get PMS. I'm now 24 and have had two children. For some reason it seems like I get PMS for 1 to 2 weeks every month. It's causing arguements between my husband and I. I've always been easy-going. I've never been one to be so moody before; I'll catch myself kind of being a b*tch for no apparent reason and I feel really bad. I'm just wondering if this is normal and if there is anything I can do about it. It's causing tension in my marriage and I'd like to get rid of these feelings and mood swings. Do you think Mirena has something to do with this? I've heard that it has a lower than normal dose of hormones for birth control. I don't get my period anymore...no bloating, bleeding, headaches, backaches, cramps; none of that.

I also cannot take conventional birth control and have been on Mirena since November 2007. Like you I have always been very laid back and easy going but now I'm getting more irritable the week before my cycle. My bleeding has almost stopped and I no longer have the massive cramping that I used to. Overall it has been great except for the PMSing. The only thing I can contribute it to is the difference in hormone's with the Mirena VS the pill. I would assume there isnt anything that can be done about it short of having it removed unfortunately. I have noticed the trend and now I take mental note when the time arises and be extra careful to monitor my moods to keep them in check. Instead of just reacting I make myself take a step back, realize what is going on and then decide how to handle the situation. When all else fails I apologize and let him know why I'm coming across snappy. Compared to what I was going through before I think I'm okay dealing with being a crab for a week.
