Getting a pelvic exam if youre a virgin?!

Question: I have to go to the gyno for the first time bc i am like 100% sure i have bacterial vaginosis. i know she will probably have to do a pelvic exam..but i am so scared to get the speculum put into me since i am a virgin..ive never been fingered or eaten out before. i am so scared how much it will hurt/be uncomfortable. what if she breaks my hymen? is there any other way i can get tested besides with the speculum? can she use her fingers or just put a little swabby thing up my vagina to get a smear?

Hi. I don't usually answer questions on here but I came across yours and felt I could help you. I had bacterial vaginosis before and I was a virgin at the time. Talk to your gyno before even undressing and tell her your concerns about the exam. Most of them are very accomodating and see virgins all the time so they are careful not to just go right in. It is very unlikely that she will break your hymen. Also, there are different size speculums. She will use the smallest one she can on you, but they are necessary for them to take a cervical swab. You can do it! Just relax. It will go much smoother if you relax all your muscles. It really doesn't hurt at all it just feels wierd. Good luck and you'll be fine, just breathe. :)

whether your a virgin or not its still uncomfortable, but before you know it its over

Any of these exams absolutely suck big time. You can let you doctor know to be on the safe side but it shouldn't affect it at all. Unfortunately I think this is the only way.

Don't be afraid. It is not going to hurt. They have small sized speculums. It might be very slightly uncomfortable but the speculum will not hurt. Just be sure to explain to the doctor that you are nervous and afraid.

It is a little uncomfortable but it will be better if you can relax. It is a medical thing and the doctor is not going to take your virginity. She will open you up a little ways and then stick in a giant Q-Tip to get a sample. It should be fairly quick. Just relax and think of something else while it is happening. They usually have pictures on the ceiling to look at =)
