Is this a period? Please help!?!

Question: Over the last 21/2 days I have had what isnt like my normal period. I have had a bit of brownish/pink blood mostly on the TP and some in the toilet when I urinate. On day one I passed one small clot. Now when I urinate it is mostly just tissue that is brown/pink and sometimes a small amount of blood. I am 25 and have sex with my fiance. It just doesnt seem like a period because of how light the blood has been. Has anyone ever had this happen? What is going on? I dont have med. insurance at the moment. Oh, I did take a test last night and it came out negative.

hey, is this the question you wanted to ask me about? this sounds like exacty the kind of problem I've been having for the last several months. I did go to see my GYN and he said that based it sounded like breakthrough bleeding. However, this was based on the fact that my cycles are irregular and periods far apart.

i guess breakthrough bleeding is when you don't actually ovulate, so your endometrium builds up, and then eventually it kind of sloughs off on its own, which is what is happening when you get this "period".

if it's only once, probably just missed an ovulation. if it keeps happening (as it has with me) and if you're concerned about maybe having reproductive issues down the line, i'd go to a doctor and ask to get bloodwork done to check your hormone leves. someone on here pointed out to me that a change in your period can often indicate something going on internally. in my case, turns out i have whacky hormone ratios and my eggs are probably not maturing (fun!) -- aka, i probably have PCOS. could also be thyroid issues or a number of other things. they've got me on south beach and exercise.

also, a great way to keep track of all this stuff for when you do see a doctor next time is mymonthlycycle.com. i started using that and it's how i noticed the issue of the long cycles (i'm bad about keeping track).

on the other hand, breakthrough bleeding can also come from being pregnant, so if there's a chance of that, take another test.

good luck! (and maybe now people who posted on my question will see i'm not a creepy old man!)

you should go to the hospital and get checked for polyps straight away dont worry as i had them becasue they can be found in men and women they are removed easily!

they gave me a case of steroids may i add

AND GO TO THE DOCTOR

well the tissue is probably skin. periods are different all the time...some last longer than others...some are heavier. I would wait until it happens next time...but if it keeps up like this go talk to your doctor.

Hi there. Are you on BC? Sometimes it can affect your period and stress and diet can too. I had the flu last month and my period was delayed for about a week. In the mean time I was so stressed!!
It is most likely your period. If you are still worried and the test came out negative you might want to try another in 5 days and try it first thing in the morning instead of at night. You can also call a nurse help-line for free advice and maybe they can answer your question more specifically.
If you think you might be pregnant go to a pregnancy crisis center and ask for a blood test. This is more accurate than the urine tests.
I wouldn't be too worried yet (only if you aren't in any pain, of course)... did you guys use any protection at all?
Oh and sometimes the brown is just dried, older blood so if you use pads you might see that more often than not but even tampon users will see it. It's not such a big deal. When I was younger I always had bright obvious blood the whole time(sorry if that sounds yucky) but now it's almost always more brown if I have a lighter period.

*(in response to update) you still might not be pregnant. Maybe to avoid future stress you can get BCPs from a low-cost center or use a condom. I know it's annoying, but it will save you from stress later on. I would just wait a few days and take the test again. And try not to be too stressed- stress can delay/ make your period wacky too.

It is most likely the start of your period if it doesn't clear up go get it checked!!!!!

if it isn't time to have a period but you just got off of birth control then it is normal. it means your body is trying to get back to normal without the homone pills (aka birth control) that it's use to taking. If it is time to have aperiod and you haven't changed anything in your daily routine then I'd see a doctor.
