The Pill???!

Question: Im going on holiday for a week with my boyfriend and his family. Ive figured out that im going to be on my period for that week and coz i get really heavy periods and arnt used to tampons, i was thinking of taking the pill. I heard that they also reduce your flow and can control your cycle..but i dont know if thats true.
I asked my mum if i could go on it and she refused.
I dont know what to do?
Help, please....=(

This is very true. Birth control pills can lighten your flow because the uterine lining does not build up like it otherwise would. When it comes times to have your period while on birth control pills, there is less endometrium for your body to shed hence a lighter period. It CAN also clear up acne, reduce bloating, reduce cramping (usually altogether unless you have other health issues such as endometriosis), prevent pregnancy, etc.

However, there are many downsides to it too because most people feel at least a few of the side effects during the first three months or so of using the pill at which the effects will either disappear or become steadily worse with on-going use. Such problems can be spotting/unexpected vaginal bleeding, headaches, fatigue, moodiness, slight depression/crying spells, etc. For most people it only takes one or two tries to get the right pill, but for some (like me) it takes four or five (on my fourth prescription).

If you truly want to go onto the pill and your mother won't allow it, you can always simply go to your doctor despite your mothers best wishes. Your doctor MUST keep everything confidential (hence patient confidentiality) and it is illegal for your doctor to share any information about you with ANYBODY else. I do not know exactly what country you are in, but in Canada we have universal healthcare so we do not have to worry about having to pay for doctors visits or anything so it's quite easy to just go in and see a doctor without anybody truly knowing.

It's true, some women have reduced flow on the pill. And you also can controll the cycle (when you don't stop taking it for the 7 days period and keep on taking it, you normaly don't get a period that cycle).

I can't tell you about the US law about birth controll pills for minors. (I'm not in the US)
Perhaps you explane your mum, that it's not about sex, it's just about more controll.
How old are you?
