First of all congratulations! :o)

I hope you have something planned to celebrate or you've coaxed your folks to get you something nice to mark the occasion.

Normally a girls menstrual cycle is 28 days (so your period should come about every 28 days), that is the length of time between the first day of bleeding during your period which is day one to the next time you get your period which is the final day of your menstrual cycle, the average period is normally about 7 days, tending to be medium the first few days, then heavy, and then light.

This is always different from person to person and can be a little different every day, just be sure to put in a menstrual cup or wear pads or pantiliners a few days before you think you are due just to avoid getting blood on your panties, it helps to carry either your menstrual cup or spare pads with you in case your period comes during school or a trip out, but if worse comes to worse you can just use toilet paper :o)

So, your period should come around every 28 days, and you know it will be irregular sometimes only for the first few cycles, sometimes until you reach adulthood, or some women are never all that regular.

It helps to track your period by using something known as fertility awareness method, but this is really something you'd want to look into when you are a bit older. For the time being try using a calandar or online calandar (there are all sorts of web sites, or zines that have some very cool calandars for your period) to take note of your periods, your moods while on your period to know what to expect, and any changes in your discharge.

Here are some sites you might find useful for this;

Charting;
http://www.tamponcase.com - Vinnie's, they do a cool little calandar wall chart with stickers to track your period.
http://www.mymooncards.com - Mooncards, cards that show you all about what is going on in your body.
http://www.cyclespage.com & http://www.mymonthlycycles.com - Cyclespage & Mymonthlycycles, online charting of your menstrual cycle.

Information on menstruation;
http://www.scarleteen.com/article/body/o... - Scarleteen the best sexual health web site there is, this is their guide to menstruation.
http://www.natracare.com/help_for_school... - Monthly matrix from Natracare, shows you what happens to your body and what to expect through your menstrual cycle.
http://www.onewoman.com/redspot - Redspot, a really good little body-positive site about menstruation and culture of menstruation.
http://www.teachingteens.com/tmenstr.htm - Teaching teens menstruation, it does exactly what it says, teaches you about menstruation.
http://www.tcoyf.com - TCOYF, fertility awareness method, learn when you are older and it will tell you all about your menstrual cycle.

Menstrual cramps;
http://www.wikihow.com/Reduce-Menstrual-... - Wikihow tips to prevent or stop menstrual cramps - not something you have to suffer at all.
http://www.lifestages.com/health/menstru... - Menstrual cramp files, a more clinical idea of how to stop menstrual cramps.

Your period does not stop you from doing anything you would do normally, that includes holidays and dancing, you can get all sorts of different menstrual options that can make you more comfortable or that are better suited to your lifestyle.
Make sure you know all your options as well as pro's and con's of each because they can all be very different and it can make a big change to your health and life.
For the time being you may want to stick to organic pads like Cottons or Natracare, or cloth pads like Lunapads or Hagrags as these are far safer, healthier and more hygeinic than commercial pads like Always or Kotex.
When you are older if you want to use an internal menstrual option I'd recomend either softcups like Instead or menstrual cups like Divacup or Mooncup as these are far healthier, cheaper, safer, cleaner and more convienient than tampons - particularly if you are a dancer.

Any questions feel free to e-mail me to ask, just in case you're too scared to ask your mum or something. Take care.

Honestly dear, there is no way to even predict how long your periods will be and when the next one will come. You may have your period for as few as a couple of days or it may last as long as a week. As far as when you'll get your next period, it's hard to tell. You could go months before you have another or you could get another in 28-36 days. It all depends on your body.

usually your period will last 5-7 days, and the time between each period is different for every girl...usually anywhere from 28-35 days...

go check out the website

www.beinggirl.com there will be all the answers about your period.

It depends on your cycle, but usually its 5 to 7 days, and its every 28 days, from the first day of one, to the first day of the next.

That being said, mine only lasts about 2 to 3 days, so its not all bad!!
Congratulations!

Hey there, congratulations on getting your period. Usually, they last between three and five days. You are right about being a little irregular at first - but usually thats more about when to expect the next one. After you have had two or three you will have a better idea of whats normal for you as far as how long you wil bleed.

The best thing to do for the holiday and the dancing is to use tampons - they still let you do most things. You will find you are tired and feel a bit strange on your period, but you'll get used to that and it shouldn't affect you too much. If you plan to go swimming on your holiday, tampons are a must.

It will last for about 5 days, give or take a few.
And there is about a month in between each one (about 20-28 days).
normally, u get ur period on the same date each month, bt 2 start, it will b irregular as u no.
dont worry about it tho! if it hurts, get a hot water bottle n some paracetamol down u!
lol xxx

mine usualy lasts for 5-6 days and inbetween its 35-40 days i think.

well, your period is suppose to last only 5-7 days.
and then it comes back 3-4 weeks later.
but ALL periods are different.
i know ive had my period for almost a month before, and then it would stop, and then come back a few days later.
but how i always know my period is coming, is really bad cramps the first few days.
but you can never actually know. its a weird thing.

First of all, Congrats! you're a woman now! Welcome to the club ;)

You're period can last anywhere from 2 to 7 days, sometimes a little longer depending on your body. The average time between periods is 28 days, but this also depends on your body. For the first couple of years, especially the first year, you are going to be pretty irregular.

I'd suggest getting into the habbit of writing down on a calander when you start and when you start. It'll make things easier to see when you start to regulate so you can predict when your next period will be.

i wouldn't worry about dancing in the show or the holiday. If you have cramps, take a pain killer like ibprophrine or motrin, and the pain should go away within a half hour. Be sure to drink lots of water as this will also help with cramps.

Hope this helped some! Have a good holiday

you'd be better off talking to your mother or other female relatives about this. Cylcles tend to run in families and eveyones cycle is different.

The average cycle is 28 days (that's the first day you start bleeding to the day just before you start bleeding again), the average period is 6-7 days. Most women are irregular until their bodies stop growing.

BUT just to show you how different everyone is: my best friend has a 25 day cycle and a 3 day period. I have a 30-33 day cycle and a 4-5 day period.

I was irregular until I was about 22 then my periods become more regular. My mother was regular by the time she was 18. My cousin has never been regular. My best friend has always been regular.

You're just going to have to wait and see what your body does.

Good Luck.

It lasts usually 2-7 days. People say the days between a period is a month (about 30 days). But it's hard to say because everyone is different.

EVERYONE IS DIFFER. EX: MY SISTERS WOULD LAST 4 3-4 DAYS WHILE MINE WOULD GO FOR 6-7 DAYS & I HAD A FRIEND WHOS WOULD ONLY LAST A DAY SERIOUSLY. THERE USUALLY BOUT 30 OR SO DAYS APART BUT SINCE YOUR JUS STARTING THERES NO WAY TO KNO SO JUS PACK EXTRA TAMPONS OR PADS
