Why don't gynecologists tell you beforehand that a test is going to be painf!

Question: My friend had a hysterosonography the other day. She was not advised what the procedure would be, was just told that it would be a "simple sonogram." Simple my foot!!! She was screaming in pain, and was hyperventilating from all of the pain and cramping. I think this is so cruel and uncaring for the patient!! Had she known beforehand what the test was called and what it entailed she could have had taken someone with her to drive her home, and taken motrin and xanex prior to having the test since no pain medication is given.
This makes me SO mad!!! Why do doctors do this? Is it because they don't care? try to save money but charge the insurance companies?
Or do they just not tell the patient anything because if they KNEW what was going to happen, they wouldn't have the test done?

I have learned that every time a doctor says "you're going to feel a pinch now", or "you might feel some pressure from this", that "pinch" and "pressure" are really code words for pain.

But it's also true that everyone has a different pain threshold.

I had never heard of this procedure before, but it sounds like I could have had that instead of the endometrial biopsy I had to endure several years ago. Now that was painful. And I really trusted that gynecologist too. I asked if it would hurt, he said probably not much, and I think he was as surprised as I was by how much it did hurt me. He'd performed that procedure before, and nobody else reacted like me.

because they want money

that's cruel

that is bad mine always tells me what it will be like find another doctor.

Ha, it probably has something to do with what you just said -- if they knew how awful the test would be, they might not have it done even if it needs to be done. But maybe she should switch gyno's to someone who 'cares' a little more.

Ok, here's what happens. We are in the back room taking bets on how loud the patients are going to scream. It's hilarious! They have no idea what's coming.

Ok, the truth is that your friend was probably being overly dramatic.
