Err, what can I do about really heavy, kinda chunky periods?!

Question: It's just annoying. Tampons leak so easily. Any ideas?

Try birth control pills.

Taking the pill can have some fantastic benefits for women with irregular or uncomfortable periods. Some women who have a heavy week-long period will see them shortened to just 3 days of light flow! Cramps completely disappear.

Also, some women with heavy flows are more prone to ovarian cysts. This is when the ovary doesn't release the egg when it should and instead, holds onto it. When the ovary finally lets the egg go, it ruptures and causes a great deal of pain. In some women, it can even cause internal bleeding and death. Birth control pills can significantly reduce this risk.

Good luck! :)

Use pads instead of tampons.

Plus, you can go to your Gyn. Birth Control pills can lessen very heavy or irregular periods.

SORRY. i get heavy periods so I don't bother with tampons! I use pads, so for about a week I can't really wear my normal pants or something, that's about it...because there are some really absorbent pads out there, especially the overnight ones, they work great for absorbing a lot.

If by chunky, you mean to imply those nasty little clot looking things, then don't worry about them at all. Your period you shed your endometrial lining. The "chunks" that I am talking about being normal, are just the shed endometrial lining...
They are supposed to be there. I might worry if they weren't :)

Some people just have heavier periods than others... although I think that regular exercise might help make them lighter....

Best wishes,
:)

P.S. if you are REALLY concerned that you might be losing too much blood or something like a period lasting excessively long... go see a doctor immediately!!!

I went on birth control to manage mine. It was heavy AND long. We're talking a 3 week "tour of duty." I was getting anemic. Now that I'm taking birth control it's become very light and only a couple of days.
