I'm a teenager, I want to be on birth control pills for heavy periods, how d!

Question: I dont have a gyn.
And I dont want my mom to think Im having sex with my boyfriend, cause I'm not! (I'm holding out!!)
But even so, I was recently told on yahoo answers that the pill can help with my icky heavy clotty periods? Cause I really cant use pads all week, but my tampons leak so easy.

Can I get them without going to a doctor?

And any medical risks? I don't have any disease or anything, but thin veins.

When I'm sick will they still work? (whats this I hear about anti biotics?)

I'm 16..

Go to planned parenthood. I couldn't talk to my mom about sex so I just went. I think you can get them there without your mom, just tell them your situation.

It does help i just think you should talk to your mom. Just be like i want my period to lighten up so do you have any ideas? then say i heard birth control works but i didnt noe lol

it would be best to talk to your mom about it but i completely understand you not wanting to. i didn't talk to my mom about it either. i went to the local health department. at mine, we were not allowed to contact your parents. doctor/patient thing. and they gave out birth control for free. you do have to get an exam. at mine, i got 3 months work then had to come back in for a check up to get the other 9 months worth of pills. i don't recommend getting the pill with out a doctor actually giving you the ok to take them.

Well you can go to any Planned Parenthood without a parent. As far as the pill,it all depends on the persons body, whether or not they will cause you to have lighter periods.Everyone is different.Sometime it cause you to bleed in between periods, gain weight, have blood cots, etc.Yes they will work when you are sick. There are alot of risks while taking the pill. You should look it up on the internet it will give you all the risks while on the pill.

Your mom should be involved in making the doc's appointment, because you will have to see one for a prescription. The antibiotic situation will only be important to you if you are having sex - because you can get pregnant. There are medical risks but they'll be relatively few at your young age - as long as you don't smoke. You sound like a good candidate for taking BCPs but don't let this make you decide to have sex - they don't prevent the spread of diseases.

i would have your dr check u for a thyroid problem. Cause thyroid problems cuase very heavy periods and plus big clots in your period as well.
