    Home Treatment
Do not self-treat a vaginal yeast infection if you:

    Are pregnant.
Are not sure your symptoms are caused by a vaginal yeast infection. In one study, only 1 out of 3 women who had self-diagnosed a simple vaginal yeast infection actually had one. 3 If you have never been diagnosed with a vaginal yeast infection, see your health professional.
Have been exposed to a sexually transmitted disease (STD), which would require a medical examination.
    Are having a recurrent infection.
For more information on self-treatment, see:

Should I use a nonprescription medication for a vaginal yeast infection?
    Using nonprescription medication
When using a nonprescription vaginal medication for a vaginal yeast infection, follow the directions on the package insert, as well as these guidelines:

Drink acidophilus milk or eat yogurt with live Lactobacillus cultures on a regular basis. Acidophilus may help correct the imbalance in vaginal bacteria that is present during a yeast infection and is thought to have some benefit in preventing vaginal yeast infections. 8
Use sanitary napkins instead of tampons while you are using nonprescription vaginal medications. Tampons can absorb the medication.
Avoid using soap when cleaning the vaginal area
