Bleeding and not on my period?!

Question: Actual bleeding or spotting? I had a girlfriend that would spot in exactly in the middle of her periods. The OBGYN told her it was because she was ovulating (not the same as menstruating) and it was fairly common. But I agree that you should go see a Doc. It could be something serious.

Ovulating is when the egg leaves the ovary. Menstuating is when the uterine wall sloughs off and you bleed. The egg takes 2 weeks(average) to travel the fallopian tube to the uterus. ( Which is where the fallacy (un-truth) came from about not being able to get pregnant if you had sex on your period.)

You need to be more specific. If it is coming from the vaginal area, go see a doctor.

did you just have sex???

Especially if you're on birth control and it's only been a short while since you started taking it, you may experience what is called "break through bleeding."

Bleeding may also be a sign of implantation-- an egg attaching to the uterine wall.

If you are experiencing any pain or you don't think it's simply "breakthrough bleeding," be sure to see your gynecologist.
