When going to the Gyno...?!

Question: What should I be asking my Gyno to check for? I go for routine checks but I'd like some more info on the specifics. I know there are 4 types of HPV and then there are many different STI's and STD's. I'm not exactly sure what to ask about what I want to get tested for. Basically the works. I'm sorry if I'm being confusing. But how do I word it to my doctor? Can I just say; "check for everything?" Lol. All your help is greatly appreciated.

First of all there are over 100 types of HPV & these will automatically be tested for if your pap smear comes back abnormal. Not all types are high risk for causing cervical cancer. The vaccine that is currently available only protects against 4 of the high risk types, but there are others.
Secondly, you can request that the Dr. checks you routinely or anytime you think you might have contracted an STD. (This usually consists of a blood test & a cervical swab test which tests for: Herpes, Syphyillis, Chlamydia, HIV, Gonorrhea, Hepatitis B
You can also ask about your birth control options, if that is an area of concern for you.

You can just say that "I'd like to be checked for all the STD's and STI's..."

There's no fancy way to approach it, I'm afraid. What's said between you and your doctor stays between you so there's no need to be embarrassed or ashamed about wanting to be tested.

You can honestly just say "can you check me for everything?". I would say that's more common a request than someone just going in there and saying "yeah, just check me for herpies."
I honestly just go and say "I need to get an STD test" and they generally just do everything.

Easy. They understand stuff like that. It is their job! Tell them that you want to make sure that EVERTHING is good! Tell them for your peace of mind. They will. You are smart! There are too many infected people that know about it and arent telling people. Tell them that you are sexually active and want to make sure that ALL is good down there and that you havent contracted anything. Also you should check into getting the gardasil shot! Doctors arent going to look at you bad for wanting to make sure that your free of disease!

They have seen it ALL and heard it ALL and taking control of your health is a GREAT thing...Walk in and say, "I want to be sure I am getting checked for any and all STD's and anything else that can be tested." He/She will most likely ask personal questions about your sexual history so BE HONEST. Why not!?

I'd say to the doctor, "I'm sexually active, so what tests do you think I should be having?" You'll prolly get the condom speech while (s)he is writing up the paperwork to take to the testing facility.
