Cervical cancer is the leading cause in cancer deaths world wide. The percent of deaths has drastically dropped since 1992 from 74% to 2008 being 2%. The survival rate in someone having cervical cancer is 69%, but if caught early and treated the survival rate is 100%. Today there is no reason for a woman to die of cervical cancer, as long as you get a cervical test once a year, you are always a step ahead.

Cervical cancer, in many cases, are caused by certain types of HPV's. When you get these certain types of HPV's and the virus doesn't go away on it's own. Then you develop abnormal cells in your cervix. These cells if not found early and treated will become cervical percancers and then cancer. There is good news though, there is a shot that has recently came out called Gardasil. Gardasil is the only vaccine out that helps protect you against getting diseases caused by HPV types 16 and 18. Which cause 70% of cervical cancer cases. The shot also helps protect against HPV types 6 and 11, which cause 90% of genital warts cases.
But there is a drawback, it may not fully protect everyone and doesn't prevent all types of cervical cancer. So it is important to get regular cervical cancer screenings.

Hopefully this has helped you, and if you need anymore help just google cervical cancer. You will find alot of helful sites.

omg ur a damn idiot

They die.
Unfortunately.
It depends on the severity of the case, whether they live long or short, or if a procedure can help at all.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news...but at least i'm not calling you an idiot :)

Yes. If caught early, women diagnosed with cervical cancer have a high chance of springing back to normal with treatment. And don't worry about the "idiot" calling you one --- he/she is ignorant..

If the cancer is localised, it gets cut out and the surrounding area is treated with radiotherapy/chemo. If the cancer is not localised (ie has spread) a woman can have a hysterectomy to remove all the sex organs then have radiotherapy/chemo but theres still a chance it has spread.
If the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes and in turn any other organs then you can't stop it...

One of my friends had breast cancer and was cancer free for five years.. then last year she got a back-ache and ignored it... it was the secondary cancer and within a month it went up her spine to her brain and she was gone... all within a month... cancer IS unpredictable and even if you treat it, theres a big risk of it re-occuring in form of a non-primary tumour. On a slightly happier note, my mother in law survived cervical cancer.... (until pancreatic cancer got her)

Yes if left untreated. Early treatment can be very successful.
