Pads or tampoons? And which sort?!

Question: Hi, I haven't started my period yet, but want to be prepared. What would be the best thing to use for my first period? Pads or tampons? And what sort of them?
Also, how is the best way to hide them? As I don't want the whole wide world to know!

Hey
I was in the same situation as you before I got my period.
I only got mine last year. (I was14 yrs old)
I'll tell you what I did, and I suggest it to you too
Start with just pads for the first couple of periods so that you know what it is like and get used to the amount of blood that comes out. Buy a range of different absorbencies and sizes so see what suits you best. I can't really reccomend any particular size because every woman is different.
Then once you feel confident (confidence is really important) you can use a tampon. Same as the pads, there are different absorbencies. You can buy packs with a mixture of all the absorbencies. Also different days during your period, you will have different flows therefore different sizes will be needed. Follow the instructions though!!
As for hiding them, at home, I keep them in a drawer in my bedroom. At school just in my bag and I always carry a pad in my bag at school in between periods just in case.
But in the morning, before school, make sure you have enough supplies for the day coz you don't want to get caught out.
Don't worry if people know that you have your period, all girls get them and it is natural. It's not shameful.
Make sure you talk to your mum about it if you have problems because she has been through it all too.
And remember, it is a celebration of you becoming a woman!
Hope this helps

you would prob feel more comfortable with a pad first. just hide it in ur purse

my personal opinion is tampons, BUT i couldnt wear tamopns till after i lost my virginity, before then it hurt to wear them, SO i would tell you for the first few years stick with pads, and any pads will work the ones with " wings" i find best. and hiding it.. Honey your a girl. you dont have to tell the world but NO ONE will think bad of you because of it. also you can talk to your mom, close relative. or even your "female" teachers will gladly help. dont stress about it,

Start with pads.
Get the ultra thin ones which you can slip anywhere without having it bulge out.
If you think you might be sensitive, try going for the unscented ones.
If you have strong odour during period, use scented ones.
If you are involved in outdoor activities, sports, dancing, etc, use ultra thin ones to make it more comfortable.
If you have really heavy flow, use maxi night pads.
If you are afraid of leaks, use winged pads.
If your flow is light, use a regular pad.

Good luck pickin!

i would use a pad the first few times, but after that if you want to try tamons, go ahed. i prefer tampons, they're more comfortable, but it's all about preference.

Well I origninally thought that I would use tampons right off the bat, but I don't reccomend it, it takes some practice!

For a beginner, I would reccomend pads, and as for brand? Stayfree Ultra Thin is what I use.
Its always best to buy the pads that come with wings on the side that can wrap around you're panties for extra stability. And I would also reccomend buying the longer ones, because average pads don't provide much coverage.

Tampons are far more convenient and easy to hide than pads, but if you are a virgin it might be really difficult, as you would have to get past you're hymen in order to properly insert it which would probably involve some amount of pain. I don't have any reccomendations for Tampons because its way more of a personal preference, seeing as its going inside of you...

To hide a pad is easy, buy a purse with a little hidden compartment on the inside, and place them in there! They are pretty bulky, but usually its not to hard if you're purse/bag is big enough.

Pads for ur first couple of times
but tampons definitely stop leaks
don't feel paranoid about them if you don't worry about them no-one will know
but you're a girl so everyone will understand, now if u were a guy i'd be freaking out but you're not so it doesn't matter
Me and my friends talk about periods all the time @ skool and no-one cares, some people actually gladly join in the conversations once they know what we're talking about

well if you are at home- use pads. out in public- use tampons.
just buy both.
but when you are out in public it is best to use tampons, cus it more comfortable..
but if you are at home just use pads cus tampons can be dangerous if you accidently leave them in.

I would reccommend pads to start with. The whole Toxic Shock Syndrome thing really freaks me out. Just this month I switched from pads to a menstrual cup (Diva Cup to be specific) but pads are fairly easy. Go for the ultra-thin with wings, and make sure to buy the long high absorbancy for at night. You can hide the ultra-thins in your purse or backpack pretty easily.
